  • Living Requirement: 30 miles from reporting location

Under direct supervision, to prepare substation sites for installation, to perform basic and assist in other operations for building forms to install foundations, erecting structures, and installing all types of bus and equipment. Also to help installing switchboard panels, metric packages, control wiring and associated instrument transformers and relays to perform basic and assist in other operations for relocating, rearranging, or removing substation equipment and structures, and to perform other related work.

1. Engage in the basic operations, and assist in the more involved operations required in preparing substation sites. Building foundations and constructing structures for supporting wire, tubing, and angle bus. Installation of other substation equipment including filling ditches, grading excavating, foundation form building, concrete pouring, steel erection, and the installing of site fencing, conduit, drainage tile, and sewer lines.

2. Assist the installing, removing or relocating transformer banks, lighting arresters, all types of circuit breakers, voltage regulators, synchronous condensers, and all other types of substation equipment.

3. Assist in installing all types of bus such as aluminum and copper wire, angle, tubing, grounding system, power cables, and all other associated equipment.

4. Help in operations for installing, removing or relocating switchboard panels, relays, RTV's, meters and other associated devices. Performing basic operations and attending to material needs of employees of higher classifications.

5. Help in installing, removing or relocating instrument control wiring and other associated wire buses. Performing basic operations, attending to tool and material requirements of employees of higher classifications engaged in these operations, driving trucks if assigned, and helping out as specifically instructed.

6. Maintain work and safety equipment; keep areas in a clean, neat and orderly condition. Must observe company safety rules and practices, and become familiar with all safety rules and procedures prescribed by the company.

7. Comply with provisions set out in general switching instructions and perform other related work as assigned.

Specific Requirements:

Due to Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) imposed regulations, the body weight limitation is imposed at 285 lbs. or less.


1. Graduation from high school or applicable equivalent either in job training or studies.

2. Normally, two years or more of company experience in substation work or equivalent, or which one year should be as a substation construction helper.

3. Should be familiar with tools, materials, and equipment used in substation work. In addition, a good understanding of company standards and practices.

4. Must have completed necessary training / school for substation construction.

5. Must have or be able to obtain a commercial drivers license.
