Overview / Responsibilities

Wood, Downstream & Chemicals is currently looking to add a Mechanical Engineer - Rotating Equipment to our team in Edmonton office. Successful candidate must live within reasonable traveling distance to our office in Edmonton, Province of Alberta , Canada.

• Development of Rotating machinery specification, RFQ, selection, design review, vendor prints review, inspection and witnessed performance testing, installation and commissioning; HAZOP review and evaluation against international Standards (API, ISO, ASME, ANSI and Hydraulic Institute) and Codes
• Field performance testing of above Rotating Equipment and de-bottlenecking capacity limitation
• Rotating equipment reliability improvement from design, operation and maintenance perspective including the Asset Management Program and Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) analysis.
• Leading and taking part in multi-disciplinary teams to resolve issues related to rotating equipment through Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
• Providing Technical advice on rotating equipment for management decision-making including rotating equipment concept selection and major revamps and modifications of rotating equipment. Validation of Equipment selection and application.
• Spare parts selection, ratification and optimization using Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles.
• Rotating equipment - Condition Monitoring, formulation and implementation of Preventive/ Predictive Maintenance program, MTBF improvement, Technical advice to Operation, Maintenance & Projects and Maintenance cost reduction
• Thorough understanding and working knowledge on Rotating Equipment Operations to provide immediate as well as long term operational guidelines to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Resource planning and assistance in resource selection for projects in different phases from FEED through detailed engineering up to commissioning.
• Training and mentoring of young engineers to build up required technical resource for long term requirement.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

Skills / Qualifications
  • This position requires an undergraduate degree in Mechanical engineering with Professional Engineer status or eligibility to get registered with APEGA and 15 years or more of EPCM multi-national and Canada experience in conceptual, front-end and detail engineering on various small, medium and large capital projects in oil & gas including Refinery, Upgrader, SAGD, and Fertilizers. Hands-on field experience in operations and reliability/maintenance engineering, inspection, and workshop repairs and turnarounds will be an asset
  • In depth knowledge in the following: Rotating Equipment (Refinery, Coker units, Boiler Feed water, condensate etc. applications, Chemical plant pumps, condensate pumps, Slurry pumps, Process water pumps, Air-Compressors, Steam Turbines, Gas Turbines, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Seal Plans and Seal Systems
  • Experience with the development of layouts for facilities
  • Experience in energy and material balances, equipment sizing, hydraulic calculations, and technical reports preparations
  • Working knowledge with ASME, API and Canadian Codes is essential
