Quantity Surveyor - Contract -Melbourne, VIC

Our client an integrated oil and gas major is seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor with operations integrity and controls integrity management exposure to join the operations team in Melbourne.

You will be required to assess and verify the work activities of the contractor.

To provide guidance and advice on work and associated interface activities between company and contractor.

To identify opportunities and provide solutions for improvement on work activities.


Assist in setting up the baseline cost control system (internal and external) and documentation for the project/operations group.

Prepare forecasts, cost trend reports, and monitor cost and budget forecasts on multiple projects on the same work site.

Report on deviations, underruns and overruns and can make recommendations for corrective actions

To assess and verify the unit rate work activities of the general maintenance contractor.

To provide guidance and advice on unit rate work and associated interface activities between company and contractor.

To identify opportunities and provide solutions for improvement on unit rate activities.

Support and verify contractor work execution to ensure the maintenance contractors proposal is in accordance with the contract terms and specifications.

Work closeout and reporting meets expectations

Review contract variation instructions for compliance with contract terms

Support benchmarking activities to steward contractor performance.

Facilitate agreement on issues between field and contractor.

Provide input on any contractor performance issues.

Maintain records / files to meet audit requirements.

Participate in annual operations integrity management system and controls integrity management system reviews.

Work with users to improve subsequent specifications for Scope of Work - 'right first time'.

Work with users to improve selection of compensation basis with a view to maximize unit rate work.

  • Increased usage of unit rate work.
  • Improved alignment between Company and Contractor for planning, estimating and execution of maintenance work.
  • Improved delivery of maintenance work by contractor.


Quantity Surveyor qualification or equivalent

Good analytical and problem-solving skills

Strong communication and interfacing skills

Broad experience in maintenance and operations area (Oil and Gas sector preferred)

Knowledge of SAP and broad range of operating systems.
