As HSE Specialist, ISE Great Yarmouth, you will be required to Manage Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), develop and direct the HSE activities in accordance with ISE HSE Operational Requirements and local regulatory requirements. Encourage safe work habits and practices, providing systems to safeguard and protect the environment and health of employees, visitors and contractors. Work along with the management team and assist supervisors in the development of job specific HSE requirements. Ensure HSE policies and practices are communicated to all appropriate personnel and that these policies and practices are adopted and followed to ensure a safe workplace. Control documentation of all HSE activities including, but not limited to, safety violations, accidents and injuries by carrying out proactive inspections and audits. Develop corrective actions and ensure appropriate action is taken to address identified issues. Follow up, as necessary to ensure the effectiveness of corrective actions. You will provide HSE statistics; develop reports and metrics for use in long-term, annual & monthly planning. You will be keen to take on challenges, develop your skills potential as well as expand your knowledge and experience through a variety of exciting initiatives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure an effective HSE management system within a large office and manufacturing facility.
  • Drive improvements in health and safety culture across all sections and departments at all levels.
  • At local level, responsible for driving initiatives and improvement plans.
  • Lead accident and incident investigations, including root cause analysis.
  • Coordinate Occupational Health surveillance for relevant sections of the workforce.
  • Advise senior management of forthcoming changes in legislation, standards or industry best practice.
  • Ensure all statutory inspections/thorough examinations are undertaken within the correct timescales and all recommendations/actions are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Provide effective HSE communications facility wide - HSE alerts, toolbox talks, newsletters, etc.
  • Assist in facilitating the implementation of corporate and company HSE standards as required.
  • Assist in the communicating of corporate and company HSE objectives and targets.
  • Project manage HSE related topics
  • Undertaking internal HSE audits and inspections
  • Facilitate the Risk, COSHH, Noise, Vibration, Fire assessment programs.
  • Liaise with enforcement authorities such as the Health and Safety Executive, Occupational Health and the Environment Agency as required.
  • Assist in the identification and development of HSE related corrective actions.
  • Participate in HSE related meetings as required.
  • Identify good and best practices; communicate them across the site and to other NOV facilities.
  • Develop annual HSE action plans.
  • Coordination of all HSE required training - comprising of new employee orientation/inductions, slinging and lifting, work at height, etc.
  • Ensure the control of contract companies is maintained by means of analysis of contractor risk assessments, method statements, test certificates, maintenance records, records of inspection, lifting plans etc.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement across the site.
  • Other specific areas of responsibility include management of COSHH, provision of first aid facilities, site traffic management plan, fire and emergency evacuation, asbestos monitoring etc.

Qualifications:

Minimum of NEBOSH General Certificate.

IEMA Certificate of equivalent environmental qualification or willing to work towards it.

Full, current driving license.

Experience:

Working within a Health and Safety role within an engineering or manufacturing sector.

Actively involved in investigation and root cause analysis.

The ability to use statistical analysis and trending of data.

Auditing experience.

Experience of undertaking and managing various risk assessment activities and associated actions (e.g. noise, vibration, fire, COSHH)

Skills, training or special knowledge

Computer literacy (including good command of Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)

Working knowledge of HSE enforced legislation.

Good understanding of HSE65, BS ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

Identify opportunities, analyse issues, design solutions and integrate best practices for multifunctional areas.

Initiate, follow and support continuous improvement.
