Description

A trainee in the Production Maintenance department with a 4-year objective to attain certification as a Journeyman Production Maintenance. Upon completion of the apprenticeship the candidate will repair and fix items in the following disciplines: Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, and PLC

Responsibilities
  • Throughout a 4-year training period, the apprentice shall perform all functions of Production Maintenance with graduating degrees of assistance. Those functions are:
  • Requires the ability to diagnose problems and repair existing and new equipment.
  • Must have the ability to read and understand electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams, flow charts, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, and blue prints.
  • Must have the ability to use electrical formulas and other handbook formulas necessary to diagnose problems.
  • Must be able to do basic PLC programming, and PLC troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to use gages, tools and equipment required for equipment problem diagnosis in the disciplines listed above. Must also be able to use required equipment and tools to facilitate repairs.
  • Must be able to develop preventative and predictive maintenance schedules.
  • Must be able to develop repair and replacement components lists.
  • Must be able to train and guide less experienced maintenance mechanics, set up operators, and equipment operators in their job functions that pertain to maintaining and setting up equipment.
Requirements
  • The minimum educational background is to be a high school graduate or meet the GED standards. The curriculum must have included courses in geometry, algebra, and trigonometry. The candidate must have had additional practical courses in high school, vocational, or technical school in the production of turned or formed metal parts, machine trades, or associated work experience. The candidate must also meet the entrance requirements of North Central Technical College or other accredited technical educational institution.
  • Must pass a test consisting of mathematics, blueprint reading and aptitude questions.
  • This level requires less than and up to 1000 hours of an 8000-hour apprenticeship.
