Overview / Responsibilities
Launch your career in environmental consultancy and gain a degree at Kingston University with no tuition fees to pay. You'll be working full time as an apprentice at Wood and will be able to apply the theory and skills you learn in your studies to some of the UK's largest infrastructure and development. Our Environmental Assessment teams work in a variety of sectors including nuclear, aviation, offshore wind, urban regeneration, grid connection and transport related projects.

This exciting opportunity for a n Environmental Practitioner Degree Apprentice to be based in our London office will commence from September 2019. The role will involve supporting the Environmental & Infrastructure Solutions Team, gaining experience in areas such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), ecology, noise and air quality as well as and working with other professionals across the organisation. All of this will happen in a structured manner whilst undertaking a part time work-based degree at Kingston University in London.
As an Environmental Practitioner at Wood, you will have exposure to both Junior and Senior team members and technical specialists and will have the opportunity to build relationships within Wood, clients and other stakeholders. You will join an enthusiastic and supportive team and will experience a challenging but fulfilling working environment.
You will have the opportunity to get involved in a variety of project activities including, management and analysis of data collection, research and field inspections, through to the provision of appropriate policy, regulatory and legislative guidance, all of which support the successful management and protection of the natural, built and human environments.
Kingston University has launched a BSc (Hons) Environmental Practitioner Degree Apprentice which will run over a five-year period. You will be expecting to start your induction programme week commencing 16 th September 2019 and begin your exciting five-year apprenticeship.

Duties during your apprenticeship may include:
  • Site visits and surveys;
  • Data collection, analysis and interpretation of environmental information;;
  • Use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS);
  • Project Management skills development;
  • Undertake desk-based environment led research;
  • Attendance at meetings and communicating scientific and technical information;
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, clients and other stakeholders; and
  • Contribution to the technical report writing, including the preparation of Screening Reports, Scoping Reports and Environmental Statements (including Non-Technical Summary's)
You will be assigned a mentor within your team who will work and liaise closely with you in your day-to-day work. Support will be provided if you wish to work towards chartered membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) qualification.

Skills / Qualifications
This role requires:
  • Three A Levels (or equivalent) -Maths, Geography or English would be advantageous
  • At least Grade 4 or C GCSE English and Grade 5 or C GCSE Maths
Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate:
  • Aspirations in progressing to eventually fulfil a role in environmental consultancy and a keen interest in environmental issues
  • Good literacy and ability to write brief reports on work undertaken
  • Ability to manage own time and ability to prioritise at busy times
  • Creative thought and practical application
  • Adaptability to changing demands
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to think in a methodical way to plan and organise tasks
  • Ability to work well with other people in a team environment
  • Good communication skills within a team and externally
