Department Overview

In Customer Care we are focused on delivering thedesired customer experience for each of our customers. Everything we do starts with the customer and our information about the customer. That information is collected and managed by our Customer Experience Strategy group. Each of our organizations, though completelydependent upon each other, are the experts in their area and will further drive PG&Es alignment around the customer.

The Field Meter Operations (FMO) organization is focused first and foremost on building and sustaining a culture that makes safety andemployees our top priority. The various field based teams; Field Metering, Meter Reading, Central Inspection Program and Revenue Assurance all provide services to customers that support public safety, timely and accurate billing, up to date energy usage data andenergy efficiency programs. Our field teams are supported by Quality and Training personnel, as well as a dedicated Dispatch and Scheduling operation.

Position Summary

This is an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E. This job is subject to collective bargaining.

The Metering Systems Technicians is a physical job that interacts with the general public. MeteringSystems Technicians install, program, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair all types of electric/ electronic circuits, components and devices related to billing measurement. Metering Systems Technicians must have completed an approved apprenticeship program:Journeyman status as a qualified Metering Systems Technician or certified by the State of California in electric meter testing. (This position is subject to review by the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee.)

Positions may be filled in alternate worklocations within the PG&E service territory based on business needs.


Minimum Qualifications:
-Must be at least 18 years of age
-Must possess a High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
-Must possess a valid Driver's License
-Must have completed an approved metering apprenticeship program and achieved Journeyman status as a qualified Metering Systems Technician or equivalent classification. (Alternatively, must be a fully trained Meteringprofessional certified by the State of California in electric meter maintenance and testing, or provide written and demonstrated proof of equivalent training and experience.)
-Internal PG&E employees must have qualified on the following test(s) prior toapplying: Physical Test Battery (PTB), Apprentice Metering Systems Technician (AMT), and Work Orientation Inventory (WOI)
-External and Hiring Hall candidates must have qualified on the following test(s) prior to interview: Physical Test Battery (PTB),Apprentice Metering Systems Technician (AMT), and Work Orientation Inventory (WOI)

Desired Qualifications:
- 3 years or more of relevant metering experience
- Testing and trouble shooting of Meters
- Relevant experience working withinutility industry
- Knowledge and experience of utility regulations
-Ability to work flexible schedules, extended hours, nights, weekends, and/or overtime (scheduled or ad hoc)
-Relevant experience as a PG&E employee
- Relevant experience as aHiring Hall employee
-Graduate from an approved Power Pathway Program


-Perform or assist in the analysis of measurement devices, such as electric meters or recorders
-Install, troubleshoot, program, andoperate power quality test equipment, conduct power and load surveys on customer premises, and collect data from measurement devices
-Operate all test equipment, solid state devices and computer systems
-Prepare and maintain all records associated withthese functions, utilize prints, diagrams and schematics, and provide technical direction/ assistance to others
-Pre-approve meter/ service plans and inspect facilities and installations for compliance with Company Standards and Governmental Regulationsoutlined in the Electric & Gas Service Requirements Book (Greenbook)
-Maintain a high standard of employee and public safety, public relations, and personal appearance
