Principal Consultant - Pipeline Inspection/Dig Verification

Main Purpose of Role:

Principal-level Consultant, leading onsite dig verification and inspection activity with a specific focus on hydrocarbon pipelines.

Liaising with existing Client focal points and Penspen Project Managers to effectively and efficiently plan and schedule the execution of technical activity in a proactive manner.

In addition to leading defined onsite scopes of work, the Principal Consultant should also exercise commercial business acumen by looking to identify and report back to the business on potential business development opportunities for follow-up.

Job Description

  • Provision of pipeline integrity advice to internal and external clients
  • Provision of Pipeline Inspection/Dig Verification advice to clients with respect to ILI capabilities for any given pipeline type and feature type.
  • Engagement with key Oil and Gas Operators within Europe and beyond
  • Responsibility for managing and performing in field technical assessments on programmes of Dig Verification activity for Oil and Gas Clients.
  • Responsibility for the production of and delivery of detailed technical reports, often within very tight timescales to meet Client needs. Technical reports cover all defect types, including complex areas of corrosion, complex mill faults, cracking and crack fields that may be present, covering all pipeline types. This involves all of the main investigative techniques.
  • Responsibility for liaising with Clients and organising Dig Verification activities to fit in with Client requirements. High level of flexibility required.
  • Provision of Pipeline Inspection/Dig Verification advice to clients with respect to optimum NDT technique for any given pipeline and feature type.

Knowledge / Experience (Skills):
  • >15-years experience in pipeline integrity
  • UT Level 2 certified plate, pipe and welds (minimum). Level 3 if not holding a degree in metallurgy/materials science or professional Welding Engineering qualification
  • >10 years professional NDT experience in the Oil and Gas Pipeline industry
  • Significant dig verification site experience covering all pipeline types and all vintages
  • In depth knowledge of all pipeline feature types in all pipe types of all vintages
  • In depth knowledge of Pipeline ILI Systems, covering Magnetic and Ultrasonic technologies.
  • Ideally significant experience of working for or with an ILI Vendor, preferably >5 years
  • Experience working within a consultancy environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Significant demonstrable experience of writing technical reports
  • Interpersonal skills with demonstrated leadership
  • Willing to travel extensively (Europe)
  • Base-location flexible
