Overview / Responsibilities
Are you a water quality expert, with a good knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks, looking to widen your range of experience, to working for government and key industry sector clients in the UK and overseas? Do you have a knowledge of the surface water regulatory compliance, WFD status assessment and monitoring, stakeholder engagement, natural capital, and ecosystems services?

We are looking for a water quality consultant to work with us to win and deliver water quality projects, focusing on surface waters and regulatory compliance. The role includes project management and technical leadership, as well as support to business development activities and proposals. The level of responsibility and seniority of this role can be tailored to fit the right applicant.

At Wood we work across a wide spectrum of services covering water resources and security, hydrology and hydraulics, water quality, hydro-ecology and hydrogeology. We provide high quality technical services and advice to a wide range of high profile customers in the UK and overseas, including infrastructure developers, UK and European governments and agencies, water companies, the World Bank and industrial clients.

Prime Responsibilities and Duties

You will contribute to a diverse range of water and water quality related projects, including water cycle studies, environmental impact assessment (EIA), catchment management, and WFD assessments. You will be working with clients ranging from UK to EU and International governments, and industry sectors, transport, defence and manufacturing both in the UK and overseas. Initially you will be supporting major new infrastructure developments including airports, power stations, wind farms, electricity transmission infrastructure, and oil and gas facilities.

Your work will be varied and challenging and will include the following:

  • Client facing interaction and stakeholder engagement;
  • Leading and contributing to writing winning proposals for new projects
  • Project delivery through project management, technical work and task management;
  • Writing, reviewing and delivering technical reports and presentations;
  • Helping us build our technical knowledge and innovation base by:
    • Keeping up to date with the latest policy and regulatory developments for the water environment
    • Sharing your technical knowledge with others in the team including mentoring and training;

Skills / Qualifications
We are seeking a highly motivated, numerate individual with excellent interpersonal skills, with a strong interest in water quality and WFD related assessments, and some knowledge of, hydroecology, hydrology, and hydrogeology.

Specifically we are looking for the following experience:

  • A track record of delivering water quality projects. This could include projects such as water quality impacts assessment / water cycle studies to identify the impact of new development, WFD related assessments from monitoring design to interpreting water quality data, to designing measures to improve water quality and understanding their effectiveness.
  • An understanding of inputs and the outputs of numerical surface water quality models.
  • A good understanding of water quality policy and regulation at UK (and European level), especially for the surface water environment.
  • A good understanding of surface water quality including the natural processes occurring in the system, and the key pressures acting on water bodies.
  • Practical project management experience, including management of project teams, and leading on challenging projects
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, clear communication, and the ability to write high-quality, concise, reports.

You will ideally have the following qualifications:

  • A relevant technical first degree, potentially with further post-graduate qualification
  • Membership of a relevant technical body (e.g. CIWEM)
  • Full driving licence to legally drive in the UK
