Overview / Responsibilities
Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions has an exciting career opportunity in our Environmental Engineering and Contaminants Group for a Hydrogeologist. This position is based in our Burnaby, BC office and reports to the Environmental Engineering and Contaminants Manager.

The successful candidate will be working with a highly motivated team of professionals delivering high quality services on technically challenging projects. You would become involved with proposed, operating and/or closed mines, upstream oil and gas projects, hydroelectric/clean energy projects, municipal and industrial landfill projects, and contaminated site assessment and remediation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting hydrogeological/hydrogeochemical investigations of sites relating to contaminated sites, environmental assessment baseline studies, site remediation or reclamation projects in British Columbia and Yukon
  • Conducting site inspections, and implementing field sampling programs in support of site investigations and remediation, including coordination of subcontractors and service suppliers
  • Implementing safe work procedures and adherence to quality control requirements
  • Analysis of data and preparation of technical reports, work plans, and project specifications
  • Interpretation of British Columbia environmental regulations and investigation results to successfully meet the client requirements
  • Client coordination in support of work activities, including communication through verbal and written correspondence
  • Effective management of tasks and/or projects, including the development and maintenance of project scopes, schedules and budgets, and coordination of staff
  • Opportunity to collaborate with other Wood offices/environmental staff on projects across Canada or international locations

Skills / Qualifications
  • Undergraduate (B.Sc.) Degree in Earth Sciences, Geology, Civil / Environmental Engineering
  • A Master's Degree in Earth Sciences or Hydrogeology would be considered an asset
  • 4 years + demonstrated hydrogeological/hydrogeochemical/geotechnical experience in environmental investigations
  • Hard rock, soft rock and overburden drilling experience
  • Experience with design and installation of groundwater monitoring wells
  • Experience design installation of pumping wells
  • Experience in groundwater monitoring, water quality and levels
  • Experience in conducting hydraulic testing
  • Experience in developing hydrogeological conceptual models, groundwater flow modeling would be considered an asset
  • Professional registration or the ability to register as a P.Eng. or P.Geo. with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia
  • Experience in developing conceptual groundwater models, numerical models for groundwater flow and/or contaminant transport is viewed as an asset
  • Experience with hydrogeologic field testing, including pump and slug tests, and installation of remote monitoring networks and data loggers is viewed as an asset
  • Experience in working at active mine sites and with safety standards/practices will be viewed as an asset
  • Knowledge and experience with Provincial contaminated sites legislation
  • Desire to provide exceptional client service and a commitment to technical excellence
  • Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication (English) skills
  • A Valid Class 5 (full - unrestricted) Driver's License is required for this role
