The Project Lead for Transmission Fluids will have strong project management and stakeholder engagement background, as well as mechanical knowledge in automotive hardware (driveline & transmissions) with a proven track record of problem solving and solution thinking.

The Project Lead for Transmission Fluids will work closely with the Technology Manager and other team members, is accountable for leading product development projects in the Transmissions program. Projects and technical service are in the product area of transmission oils (e.g. Spirax portfolio) with focus on US original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) both light and heavy duty. Specific projects are planned on an annual basis and accountabilities include:
  1. R&D Project Management: Delivers projects on time, on-scope and on-budget, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness, driving alignment with global and local stakeholders in technology, in the business, and with external partners. Gives practical input on defining technical projects. Executes work on projects showing a sense of urgency and ability to overcome obstacles. Develops formulation expertise by working with existing team members and key additive suppliers, building a level of understanding that enables robust shaping dialogue with additive company partners.
  2. Technical Service: Interfaces with marketing and product management to enable efficient implementation of new products, prompt resolution of supply chain issues and support to OEM business development opportunities as and when they arise. Understands customer needs and translating into effective technical solutions.
External Focus, Collaboration, and Stakeholder Management: Establishes deep and trusting relationships with the technical counterparts in the OEM organizations. Develops a network within Shell and externally (e.g. OEMs, Additive Companies, Industry) and demonstrates an ability to leverage it both to add business value and to increase knowledge and breath of perspective.

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • 7+ years' track record in technology; knowledge or experience in the following:
    • Proficient in Driveline / Transmissions hardware testing
    • Product Development Formulation experience (Driveline & Transmissions) and Tribology / Lubrication Knowledge
    • Mechanical Knowledge of Automotive Hardware (Driveline & Transmissions) with proven track record of problem solving and solution thinking.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or another related scientific field with relevant work experience
  • Strong record of cross-team collaboration and in interfacing with business and external partners (e.g. customers/OEMs, Lube Oil Blend Plants, Marketing, Supply Chain, Global Technology stakeholders etc).
  • To respond to customer (e.g. OEMs, Supply chain) with the technical knowledge to provide timely business solutions.
  • To ensure the delivery of research projects on time and budget including to manage field trials and additional engine/driveline tests.
  • Project Management track record of delivery and performance, excellent organizational skills and high capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and maintain and build strong relationships.
  • Intensive communication (verbal & written) within the global team
Willingness to travel domestic & international (estimated 20%) on as an-needed basis
