The Gulf of Mexico Paint Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and integrity of coating systems on offshore oil and gas production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. The Paint Engineer is the owner of the 10-year risk-based assessment strategy and preventative maintenance program (Paint Master Plan). The primary focus of the Paint Engineer is to address inspection-driven high priority work-scope while maximizing the safety and productivity of offshore paint crews. This role has significant HSE accountability for paint crews with an average daily POB of 30-50 blasting & painting partners-in-safety. Accountabilities include:
  • Safe and effective coordination of Blasting & Painting crews across half of the Gulf of Mexico
  • Development of annual Behavior-Based Safety Management strategy for offshore paint crews, and subsequent implementation and performance tracking
  • Management of Paint program costs (AFEs) in accordance with agreed-upon budgets
  • Incident management; including the reporting and sharing of lessons learned, preparation of Early Learning Bulletins (ELBs), and Learning from Incidents (LFIs)
  • Prioritization of work scope identified through a condition and impact assessment
  • Qualification & Implementation of innovative & industry-leading new technologies for coating and surface prep
  • Increasing the productivity of Gulf of Mexico paint crews through a combination of Technology, Commercial Strategy, and Ways of Working
  • Execution of Contract Holder accountabilities for multiple Strategic Blasting & Painting contracts
  • Coordination and management of offshore paint inspectors, and the overall paint quality management program
  • Coordination of Lump Sum Campaign scope collection, bid preparation, and bid assessment/contract award
  • Preparation of annual Safe Work Plans for blasting & painting crews
  • Collection and reporting of fabric maintenance (paint) KPIs
  • Interfacing and engaging with offshore facility leadership and Operations Management

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • 5+ years' experience in the oil and gas industry or similar industry; Deepwater experience is a plus
  • Relevant work experience in an industrial setting with engineering and/or maintenance; operations experience is a plus
  • Nationally recognized coatings/inspection certifications are a plus but are not required
  • Knowledge of industrial blasting and coating techniques
  • Knowledgeable on requirements for Safe Work Plans and Management of Change in the Gulf of Mexico
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with the requirements of the Behavioral Based Safety Management program
  • Exposure to SAP PM and Primavera P6 is a plus
  • Understanding of the general responsibilities of Contract Holders
  • Understanding of integrated scheduling techniques
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices
  • Must be able to travel offshore on a routine basis to engage with offshore leadership and contract paint crews
  • Must hold or be able to obtain HUET certification
  • Must hold or able to secure a TWIC Card through Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
