Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is currently recruiting for a Principal Piping Designer - Drilling to join our team in Yuzhno, Sakhalin. We are looking for candidates with the drive and commitment to make a genuine difference to our performance to ensure that the company continues to differentiate itself from competitors by delivering quality projects to our client's requirements.

Basic Functions
  • Execute design and draughting activities (Concept, FEED, technical study & detailed design).
  • May act as a discipline focal point for an asset or limited set.
  • Provides technical guidance to designers.
  • Carry out Offshore Surveys as and when required.
  • Attend client meetings.
  • Provide input to the preparation of CTR on projects.
  • Highlight scope and schedule changes in accordance with the change control process.
  • Participate in design office planning control on scopes for limited assets.
  • Ensure that designs comply with the relevant Standards and procedures.
  • Provide technical assistance to discipline assigned personnel as required.
  • Ensure, as far as is practically possible, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with budget and schedule.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of technical developments, national and international standards and legislative requirements related to the discipline scope.
  • Review and check work output of discipline assigned personnel as required.
  • Maintain good communication with discipline team and inter discipline.
  • Visit the assets and carry out site surveys when necessary.
  • Assist the Piping Designers and others when requested in the execution of their responsibilities and duties.
  • To carry out piping studies.
  • To prepare Design Drawings from Engineering Data and Specifications in accordance with Project / Company / Client Standards and Procedures. These will include piping, pipe supports and minor mechanical details.
  • To check Drawings.
  • To prepare Material Take Off.
  • To prepare Weight Calculations.
  • To carry out document searches via Unica and Documentum.
  • To perform layout and design work from the basic data supplied.
  • Apply advanced level techniques in computer design and standard design applications.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Single Point responsibility for the integrity and quality of work within the Piping Design discipline.
  • Assisting in managing the resources and staff with discipline.
  • Ensure effective communication and interface definition between all disciplines for design development, review and check progresses.
  • Represent PSNS in coordination with Client discipline for monitoring and variance control of Client standards. Ensure robust challenge of company standards as part of normal working practice.
  • Identify potential applications for new technologies in discipline area.
  • Actively train and encourage the development of Russian and junior engineering staff to fulfil discipline engineering role providing Competency Assessment, Staff Mentoring, On the Job Training (OJT), and arranging discipline specialist courses and internal training.
  • Review and control any discipline design work carried out by third parties vendors or Russian Design Institutes (RDIs).
  • Provide detailed discipline engineering input during all design phases, including interpretation of standards.
  • Provide highest quality discipline input into conceptual design teams.
  • Develop project risk registers defining key risks to start-up of the overall project and its constituent projects.
  • Develop verification requirements to determine the probability of risk occurrence.
  • Review results of verifications and advise on required mitigations to overcome foreseen risks to project start-up.
  • Define requirements for and participate in assurance activities to assess effectiveness in closure of risks.
  • Responsible of the provision of Piping Design services in support of project scope of work delivery.
  • Ensuring that the work is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the current releases of any company/client or statutory design, codes, standards or procedures.
  • Preparation Technical evaluations and clarifications of received bids.
  • Reviewing of vendor's documents for compliance with company requirements.
  • Preparation of material requisitions.
  • Undertaking Site Surveys as required.
  • Input to Scope of Work and Basis of Design.
  • Development of new design processes within E3D/PDMS/MDS.


Skills / Qualifications
  • 10+ years' experience in the Piping field.
  • 2+ years' experience on Drilling Assets preferred.
  • Oil and Gas engineering required preferably brownfield.
  • Conceptual, Front End and Detailed Design experience required.
  • Shell DEP experience preferred.
  • Experience in onshore/offshore projects in Russia, cold/remote regions is advantageous.
  • Field experience in construction strongly preferred.
  • Experience in an Engineering Design company/Russian Design Institute desirable.
  • Proficient user of PDMS/E3D
  • Proficient user of MDS.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred but Technical qualification with prerequisite experience shall be considered

Technical / Business Skills:
  • Self-motivated individual, able to work in both small and large engineering team environments.
  • Able to provide innovative, fit for purpose, solutions whilst meeting basic client engineering requirements.
  • Experience in estimating project scopes from both a deliverables and time to complete point of view.
  • Ability to manage more than one project at a time.
  • Leadership and project management skills.
  • Project Scopes (EPC, FEED, Revamp).
  • Materials of Construction.
  • Constructability Experience.
