Smart Grid Technology Engineer – London – Permanent


A leading Distribution Network Operator is recruiting for a Smart Grid Technology Engineer to join the London-based team. The job holder is expected to have multi-years of experience of working in multi-disciplinary areas of smart grid – such as power systems, SCADA systems, telecommunications and IT-OT systems.


Key responsibilities:
  • Executing the work programme to develop an end-to-end information and communications technology system required for the deployment of smart solutions such as flexible generation connection, demand side response, EV smart chargers, electricity storage and dispatch flexibility services
  • Responsible for developing the specification for the procurement, design, testing and trial of smart grid technologies and solutions
  • Responsible for evaluating and implementing emerging smart grid communication standards (such as IEC, IEEE etc) and representing our business in external industry working groups
  • Supporting the Smart Grid development team in continuously developing and delivering the overall strategy that will enable our business to become proactive and forward looking in facilitating the low carbon transition.
  • Supporting the Smart Grid Development team in assessing and delivering the capabilities required for our business to transition into a DSO role

Key requirements:
  • Degree or working towards qualifications leading to membership of an Engineering Institution
  • A good understanding of principles of DNO power engineering
  • An understanding of emerging / advanced transmission, generating and distribution technology – especially around smart grid and active network management systems
  • Experience of designing and integrating complex systems

Successful candidate should possess knowledge of:
  • Implementing complex solutions and Integration with DER systems, SCADA systems and IT-OT systems
  • Experience of working with industry standards such as DNP3, IEC CIM, IEC 61850
  • Good understanding of computer networking, data and telecommunications
