As Maintenance Engineer, in Flexibles Glenrothes, you will join a motivated and driven team of Maintenance Engineers to produce world class support to all workshop departments. You will take a customer service approach, both internal and external, with a view that the technical services you provide are there to support the efficient management of the team. You will be responsible for your own productivity output as well as co-ordinating with the rest of the team on a day to day basis, utilising various service engineering related skills. As Maintenance Engineer, you will be encouraged to identify any potential areas for improvement and assist in implementing preventative measures to ensure and maintain an excellent quality record in a busy and responsive production environment. You will be keen to take on challenges, develop your skills potential as well as expand your knowledge and experience through a variety of exciting initiatives.

You will possess and apply your comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in a technical field to complete assignments. Working under minimal supervision, you will have the capacity, knowledge and experience to lead bigger projects/assignments and can recommend and participate in change of procedures. You will be responsible for reading and interpreting drawings, performing repairs, reporting quality issues of the day-to-day plant and managing routine scheduled maintenance programs. You will support, improve, implement innovative idea generation and creative, efficient problem solving.

  • Read, interpret and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately fault find and repair plant.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning electrical apparatus
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance functions as scheduled
  • Realign and adjust machinery to adhere to manufacturers specifications
  • Assist in the movement and installation of new and present machines
  • Assist in the planning sequence of maintenance to achieve optimum efficiency & production flow for each WO scheduled
  • Monitor and control materials, products or equipment to detect defects or faults.
  • Coordinate with the rest of the team "On call" cover for M/C breakdowns.
  • Maintain site during winter conditions
  • Approve third party time sheets.
  • Perform "Inductions" and "Permit to Work" for third parties or irregular work.
  • Rework and/or repair plant equipment and products per engineering specifications.
  • Check work via use of gauges, visuals and measuring tools.
  • Maintain an organised / visual workspace including inventory (5S understanding)
  • Perform LOP when working on plant.
  • Be responsible for stopping work for safety, stop production for quality, and escalate concerns
  • Be familiar with and use of proactive root cause problem solving (Fishbone etc.)
  • Support initiatives such as new techniques and products, purchases of new machinery.
  • Attend daily team brief meetings, actively engaging in positive discussions regarding potential problematic areas.
  • Describe events during quality related investigations, aiding the Manager to understand the root cause where required.
  • Respond to identified process improvements and implement them willingly.
  • Strive to assist with maintaining all relevant KPIs in Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and Engagement whilst identifying areas for improvement.
  • Take part and contribute in toolbox talks.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and promote company objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all procedures/paperwork is completed, kept up to date and signed off by the relevant person.
  • Ensure all company policies surrounding, health & safety, quality requirements and housekeeping are met.
  • Adheres to inspection criteria, policies and procedures without exception.
  • Travel as and when required.
  • Ensure adequate stock levels of critical components for machines & plant.
  • Carry out other duties as and when business requirements dictate as may be reasonably expected by line manager.

  • Time served apprenticeship or HNC in a relevant subject

Higher education in a relevant subject.

  • In depth working knowledge of machine tools within a manufacturing & welding environment.

Skills, training or special knowledge
  • Computer literacy (including good command of Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Outlook).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
