Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is currently recruiting for a Corrosion Engineer, to be based in the Wood office in Aberdeen, to provide corrosion engineering services to the Wood Client base for pipelines (both subsea and onshore) and pressure systems equipment.
The primary functions of the Corrosion Engineer are:
  • Providing technical assessment and interpretation of corrosion / inspection monitoring data including corrosion anomalies and failures analysis
  • Delivering periodic reports on the corrosion status of systems and identification and assessment of significant trends from surveys and Corrosion and Chemical Control Matrix Data
  • Providing corrosion expertise into multi-disciplinary Risk Based Assessment or other process groups
  • Undertaking Corrosion Risk Assessments and fitness for service assessments
  • Developing corrosion control and management strategies
  • Performing materials and coating selection studies, including corrosion modelling
  • Designing new CP systems and reviewing / assessing existing CP systems
  • Conducting life extension assessments

Skills / Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of specific experience related to the job description, with at least one year in pressure systems in the oil and gas or related industries (Essential)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials / Metallurgy / Chemistry (Essential)
  • Post-graduate qualification in corrosion (Desirable)
  • Chartered Engineer (Desirable)
  • API 571 Certificate holder (Desirable)

Skills and Competencies
  • An ability to demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of and be able to use applicable national and international standards in the corrosion or related fields
  • The ability to perform the whole cycle of corrosion risk assessment including internal and external corrosion review in both offshore and onshore assets
  • The ability to perform corrosion-rate calculations, and fitness for purpose studies
  • Familiar with other mechanical and high temperature degradation mechanisms related to refinery and onshore facilities
  • Materials selection expertise in Conceptual, FEED and Detailed Design phase of projects
  • Familiar with QA/QC systems/procedures and NDE techniques
  • Experience in Cathodic Protection design and monitoring
  • Experience in various coatings and linings, their properties and applications in oil and gas industries
  • Writing technical reports and specifications
  • Competent User of Microsoft Office Corrosion Modelling software (Cassandra, Norsok M-506, ECE etc.)
  • Good communicator both written and verbal (fluent in English)
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills and an ability to relate to those in a wide range of organisation positions
  • Capacity to understand complex problems and work collaboratively to identify practical and technically sound solutions
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and committed to delivering first class corrosion engineering services
  • Proactively initiates continuous improvements to processes and seeks to eliminate waste and inefficiency
Ensures the effective application of innovative inspection and corrosion engineering applications and specialist technologies
