The Role:

The Senior Equipment Safety Specialist will be based out of the Fremont Factory and is responsible for equipment safety program deployment across multiple Tesla locations. By developing, implementing and sustaining programs including the building of equipment safety capabilities in others, the Equipment Safety Specialist will help create and streamline the systems and procedures necessary to ensure manufacturing and related equipment is designed, built and used safely. The ideal candidate works well on both self-initiated projects and those driven by concerns and issues reported by co-workers. The ideal candidate also takes pride in his/her analytical abilities, organization skills and attention to detail.

  • Connect and build relationships with manufacturing design teams to implement inherently safe work designs for machinery, work systems, maintenance and related equipment
  • Develop equipment safety solutions to support both design and corrective action management with assigned action owners
  • Support manufacturing engineering to grow and improve the sustainability of existing equipment safety systems and solutions within production manufacturing;
  • Inspect and test existing machine safeguards and assess the effectiveness of said controls and related operational and maintenance procedures
  • Assess and provide input into the design of safety systems for new machinery and equipment for both Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing situations including related operational, maintenance and LOTO procedures.
  • Efficiently manage the technical aspects of third party equipment safety assessors, consultants and certification bodies
  • Ensure compliance with Local, State and Federal environment, health, safety and sustainability regulations and best design/ operational practices
  • Work with internal teams to provide technical expertise to health and safety procedures in the manufacturing environment;
  • Work as a technical resource in support of incident analysis to determine root cause, prevention and corrective measures relating to equipment safety and sustainability
  • Conduct equipment safety Job Hazard Analyses

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field of study
  • Automotive manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience with the development, implementation, and delivery of safety trainings
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory requirements related to equipment safety
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint
  • Evidence of exceptional ability
