Role synopsis
IST is BP's trading arm, and one of the world's largest commodity trading businesses, with over 3000 people across the globe. We buy and sell BP's commodities in all traded markets. First and foremost, we service the group, making sure commodities flow and value is maximised. In addition, we identify opportunities to utilise IST's distinct capabilities to profit from market developments through trading and origination. Our IST European Gas & Power business is BP's European marketing and trading business, earning material profits by focusing on areas of competitive advantage such as Producer Services, Structured Products, and the LNG/Gas interface. We have nearly 300 people working to deliver value for the group.

As a key commercial role within IST's European Gas & Power business, this role puts you at the heart of the business with the opportunity to develop a material line of business, take personal accountability for delivering growth and profitability, and enhance our growing brand in this area through your personal contacts and relationship building skills. Reporting to the Head of Origination, you will be a key part of the deal making process. Your drive, polish, patience, intellect, insight, and influence will all be required to be effective.

Key accountabilities
The Originator will report to the Head of Origination and will play a critical part in delivering an enhanced power marketing and trading presence in Europe. The role provides the opportunity to further develop deep skills in international strategic origination, business development, negotiations, joint ventures and financing structures to gain a wide exposure to growing the IST gas and power businesses.
• Developing and maintaining strategic relationships with target counter-parties, joint ventures and other appropriate external parties in the UK and continental Europe
• Development of the power business by identifying, appraising, optimising, developing and closing transactions which add flexibility and optionality to the portfolio through a variety of long commercial structures, pro-actively bringing forward a range of potential deals
• Developing and leading negotiation strategies to deliver a variety of commercial and operational agreements, including tolling agreements, structured Options, Commodity Sales/Purchase Agreements, Financing and Operational Agreements
• Fully understanding how each new business opportunity impacts the trading exposure associated with the existing portfolio; understanding and mitigating the risks associated with each new opportunity
• Consulting with all internal stakeholders and assurance groups including tax, legal, finance, regulatory, risk and credit to ensure compliance and optimal structure
• Ensuring all internal approvals for new opportunities are obtained
• Supporting E&P in evaluating potential upstream positions and developments and assessing the opportunity for providing flexibility to the portfolio

Essential experience and job requirements
• Commercial: proven track record in extracting commercial value from projects/deals; demonstrates a bias toward the most economic solution; good judgment for risk and reward; able to quickly identify what is important and what is not; Track record in driving commercial results in a compliant, 'one team' manner.
• Financial: Strong financial understanding, including accounting (PnL, Balance Sheet, Cash Flows), financial concepts including dual discounting and credit pricing; awareness of MVAR, CVAR, and similar methodologies
• European Power Markets: Deep previous experience requiring working in European power markets, including demonstrated mastery of market dynamics, regulation, supply/demand fundamentals
• Interpersonal skills (impact & influence): Able to work in an dynamic, fast-paced and performance-oriented environment with diverse people, acting as a bridge between an asset and its shareholders and the trading community. Able to influence and motivate a diverse community of individuals. Possesses the impact and drive to make things happen. Experience in influencing a range of senior stake-holders, both internally and externally

International Gas (IG) was formed as a result of the integration of the GTEL & Commercial Development SPUs. International Gas (IG) provides commercial support to Upstream in the development of major gas value chains, optimises BP's European equity gas supplies, trades and markets third party gas and power, and trades and optimises equity and merchant LNG. IG also houses a Treasury Trading team who manage BP's FX and money market activities. IG has high a significant commercial agenda and major growth ambitions, including supporting the delivery of major Upstream gas value chains around the world (amongst others including Trinidad, the Caspian, Oman, Indonesia, Australia, Egypt and Alaska), growing its European Gas and Power business and building a 20+mtpa flexible BP LNG portfolio.
