Reports To - Functional Manager or delegate: Engineering Manager
Supervises/Number of Direct Reports: Piping Designers
Purpose of Position: The Lead Piping Designer shall have the ability to layout piping systems on Oil and Gas projects and ensure the layouts are in accordance with BP engineering specifications, using 3D based programs and experience. The Lead Piping Designer shall have adequate experience to adopt a practical approach to piping layout problems and be familiar with the requirements/interactions of other engineering disciplines.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES OF POSITION:
• Responsible for safe working practices both personally and for the Civil / Structural designers in the team, using the WorleyParsons OneWay framework.
• Responsible for personal safety and safe working practices. Understand and follow OH&S procedures.
• Ensure the design and drafting team understands and applies the WorleyParsons quality management system.
• Develop positive client and project relationships.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to work autonomously.

General Accountabilities:
• Can progress schedule by tracking ISO progress through multiple gates.
• Can take directions from the Lead piping engineer and communicate to piping designers.
• Understanding of piping construction techniques.
• Is a self-starter, problem solver and can independently generate initiative practical solutions to piping layout problems.
• Mentoring and supervision of trainee and junior designers.
• Working knowledge and ability to interpret and apply relevant International and local Codes and Standards and, client standards and specifications.
• Ability to determine the advantages and disadvantages and relative costs of alternative design concepts and establish preferred concepts. Demonstrating continual improvement in the execution of work.
• Understanding of design deliverables required for Conceptual, FEED and Detailed Design, establishing appropriate level of detail and checking required for each phase.
• Experience in discipline specific databases and efficient use of word processing and spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
• Ability to learn and apply new software.
• Proven leadership skills and strong interpersonal skills, with a willingness to work as part of a team.
• Demonstrated priority and deadline management for self and team.
• Provide expert advice and support to the Engineering Manager.
• Initiate and participate in short-range and/or long-range planning and, consistently complete work within budgeted hours.

Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
•15 years plus experience in the relevant industry.
•Advanced Diploma of Engineering in the relevant field or equivalent.
•Excellent English language verbal and written communication skills.
•Proficient in the use of 3D packages; PDMS, SPR or PDS.
•Has previous experience with BP engineering Specifications.
•Must have green and brown field project experience with oil refinery and gas processing.
•Interpret pipe stress ISOs and suggest alternative support arrangements to pipe stress engineer.
•Has experience in a multi-cultural work share environments.
•Past experience in Conceptual, FEED and Detailed Design piping projects.
•Field piping experience in live refinery and gas plants.
•Has experience in conducting field investigation trips to live operating oil refinery and gas plants.
•Experience in carrying out 3D design reviews with the client and multi discipline design teams.
•Has experience with interpreting laser scan data and utilising to tie-in new piping and equipment.
•Have the experience and skills to set the standard and drive the rest of the team to excel in HSE.
•Extraction, production and checking of engineering isomeric drawings.
•Can layout complete green field plant with minimal supervision.
