Xcel Energy has an exciting opportunity for an Electric EMS/SCADA Programmer II or Electric EMS/SCADA Programmer III to join our team. This position may be located in Golden, Colorado or Amarillo, Texas with preference given to the Golden, Colorado location. The successful candidate will be placed in this job family based on their qualifications. The description below reflects the responsibilities for the Electric EMS/SCADA Programmer II. Higher levels within this job family may have additional responsibilities.
 
Summary
Position provides support for Electric Energy Management/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (EMS/SCADA) systems. Works with specific applications within EMS, including Generation Dispatch and Control (GDC), Transmission Security Management (TSM), DispatcherTraining Simulator (DTS), and OATI webAccounting and webTrans. Provides support to entry-level programmers.

Essential Responsibilities
 
 
  • Designs, tests, and develops critical enhancements for the EMS/SCADA environment. Proficient in understanding how various applications support Xcel Energy's physical operations.
  • Work with the management team, users, and junior development staff to ensure business requirements are met in a timely and unobtrusive manner.
  • Works with the integration team to support integration of software into the test and production environments.
  • Gather, create, and document user requirements and work with the Electric EMS/SCADA team to ensure requirements are met. Ensure technical documentation is created and maintained and that standard change and release processes are supported.
  • Keep abreast of technology, industry and business trends to ensure that appropriate technologies are being considered in the planning process that meet organizational requirements.

Requirements for Level II
 
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (3 years experience developing in and/or supporting an Electric EMS/SCADA environment may substitute for the degree)
  • At least 3 years experience supporting Electric Energy Management/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (EMS/SCADA) systems
  • Technical skills with regard to the following technologies: Oracle, GE Power On Reliance, PI, SQL Server, Unix OATI webAccounting/webTrans, and Windows
  • Object oriented programming languages C/C++, Java, XML

Preferred
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
  • Appropriate technical and continuing education
 
Must be available to be on-call during nights and weekends.
 
Requirements for Level III
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field and appropriate technical and continuing education (6 years experience developing in and/or supporting an Electric EMS/SCADA environment may substitute for the degree)
  • 5 years supporting Electric Energy Management/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (EMS/SCADA) systems
  • Technical skills with regard to the following technologies; Oracle, C, Unix and Windows
  • Object oriented programming languages C/C++, Java
  • Ability to be on-call during nights and weekends
 
 
Preferred
 
  • Technical skills with regard to the following technologies; ICCP, PI, Oracle, SQL Server, GE Power On Reliance, Unix, webAccounting, and webTrans
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following: C/C++, Java, XML
 
Must be available to be on-call during nights and weekends.
