Position Summary:

Designs components or portions of systems, and modifies existing designs to develop or improve them.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Uses computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools
  • Gathers information, makes studies, performs calculations, and prepares original rough layouts and sketches to present design proposal
  • Coordinates design criteria with engineering, tooling, material, and planning group in accordance with contractual specifications
  • Some selection and application of established and specific procedures may be required
  • Works under limited supervision; work is reviewed for adequacy on completion
  • Makes some decisions independently, but refers most questions/problems to engineers or supervisor
  • Has a solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology
  • Ability to develop complex process and piping designs to support water, wastewater, and related infrastructure projects for municipal and utility clients
  • Ability to perform simple and complex site visits (periodic travel required)


  • 2-4 years of relevant Piping Design experience required
  • 2 year technical school mechanical degree or equivalent experience required (engineering background preferred)
  • 2-4 years minimum experience with AutoCAD 2012 to present, Microstation is a preferred, and 3D software like Bentley Autoplant
  • Autoplant 3D experience is required
  • Possesses mechanical aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Other design software, such as MATLAB or Solidworks preferred
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred
  • Has a solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology
  • Ability to develop complex process and piping designs to support water, wastewater, and related infrastructure projects for municipal and utility clients
  • Ability to perform simple and complex site visits
  • Travel required
