The role advertised below is that of Product Quality Advisor. This role is part of Technical Function of Air BP. The successful candidate will be Sunbury office based, UK.

Key accountabilities
As Product Quality Advisor you'll be responsible for all aspects of aviation fuel product quality within the supply chain from refinery to airport. The role offers great scope for providing training, guidance, risk assessments and quality focus.
You'll need to:
  • Implement Air BP's product quality standards, policies & procedures for operations in all performance units as directed by the Global Product Quality Manager to ensure compliance with Air BP and industry regulations
  • Provide product quality support to Product Quality Authorities in all aspects of aviation fuel quality assurance and control
  • Conduct periodic inspections of supply locations, laboratories and operational sites to verify conformance with standards and procedures, producing reports and setting out interventions when required
  • Conduct supply chain risk assessments and develop improvement plans based on findings
  • Liaise with BP Refineries, 3rd Party Refineries, pipelines, shipping, supply, and logistic groups to coordinate and implement aviation fuel quality initiatives and fuel specification changes
  • Provide global training on Product Quality to Air BP staff, IST, FVC's and third parties
  • Act as a member of the Global Training Network lead by the global training manager, input where necessary to up-skill Air BP's staff and documentations. Participate in the Global training meetings and telecoms
  • Management and maintenance of the PQ online training system
  • Development of Product Quality training materials
  • Represent Air BP on external technical bodies as directed by the Global Product Quality Manager where specification and product handling issues are debated and ensure that Air BP and the wider BP group are aware of proposed revisions to specifications and/or regulations that affect product manufacture and handling requirements
  • Act as the SPA for Microbial contamination in aviation fuels
  • Represent Product Quality on the vehicle working group and the Waivers/variance group
  • Conduct functional assurance reviews as directed by the Global Product Quality Manager
  • Actively participate and contribute to the Product Quality Network (PQN) - The PQN periodically meets to discuss product quality issues, share lessons learned from past incidents and coordinate implementation of product quality initiatives
  • Preparation of Technical and Operational bulletins where necessary


Essential Education
  • Degree in a science related discipline preferably Chemistry or Chemical Engineering


Essential experience and job requirements
The role involves significant third party interaction as well as networking with different locations and functions in Air BP and the wider BP Group. A high standard of interpersonal communication skills (meetings, presentations and leadership) is essential along with evidence of cultural sensitivity and working with colleagues and others on a global scale.

Our business language is English and the incumbent is required to be fluent in written and spoken English.

Experience in the petroleum fuels industry or a related field in the aviation industry is essential.

You will need a knowledge and application of:
  • Petroleum fuels manufacture, distribution and use in engines
  • Aviation fuel laboratory testing and test methods
  • Aviation fuel quality assurance/control and specifications
You'll also need to have a proven record of performance delivery and be comfortable and effective working independently as well as part of a wider team.
