Role synopsis
The Field Optimization Engineer (FOE), based in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, is responsible for daily field-wide optimization and also the estimation, evaluation, and tracking of production impacts. The FOE is influential in the scheduling of maintenance activities that affect field wide production. Additionally, they play a role in the identification of and production benefit calculations for facility debottlenecking opportunities. The position provides a key coordination role between Resource Management teams in Anchorage, North Slope-based Operations teams, and Alyeska Operations concerning major maintenance-scheduling issues and facility debottlenecking activities. The FOE is the owner of the Production Impact Maintenance Plan.
The core objective of this position is to deliver expert optimization for the highly-complex production and injection systems at Greater Prudhoe Bay (GPB).
This position is part of the larger GPB Production Optimization team, which includes the PCC, EOC, an Anchorage based Optimization Engineer, and slope based Wells Optimization Engineers. Collectively this team works to maximize value to the GPB owners and the State of Alaska through efficient optimization of the GPB facilities - balancing maximum utilization of facility/field capacity while influencing the planning/scheduling/execution of maintenance activities to minimize the impact to the business.

Key accountabilities
  • Comprehensive daily system optimization of
    • All production facilities, especially as regards to gas offtake management;
    • Gas transit system, gas injection system, gas plants; and
    • The gas lift distribution system
  • Ownership of the planning & execution of the Production Impact Maintenance Plan, and integration of that plan into the overall Integrated Activity Plan process
  • Fieldwide shutdown planning and management
  • TAPS (Trans-Alaska Pipeline System) shutdown planning and management
  • Management of unplanned TAPS prorations
  • Optimization of production around facilities-level shutdowns
  • Overall QA/QC of production impact categorization & tracking
  • System capacity issues, including:
    • Determination of overall Implied Production Capacity (IPC)
    • Identification of bottlenecks at the plants
  • Step-up fill-in for the Production Optimization Team Lead (PCC/EOC TL), as needed


Essential Education
  • Engineering degree in Chemical/Mechanical/Petroleum Engineering or related discipline or 10+ years in a similar OE position.


Essential experience and job requirements
  • 10+ years relevant oil industry experience - surface and/or subsurface
  • Minimum of 5 years Upstream experience with Prudhoe Bay location highly preferred
  • Thorough understanding of Prudhoe Bay facility integration
  • Ability to adapt interpersonal communication styles to meet the needs of a broad range of contacts and employees
  • Ability to manage diverse interfaces
  • A broad range of technical and commercial skills is demanded by the position
  • Drive to deliver results and actively seek out & address production enhancement opportunities
  • Keen business awareness and perception
  • Excellent organizational, planning and prioritizing abilities
  • Team player and excellent interpersonal skills

Other Requirements (e.g. Travel, Location)
Ability to work a 2 week on/2 week off rotational schedule on the North Slope of Alaska.

Desirable criteria & qualifications
  • Professional Engineering license
  • Thorough understanding of Subsurface/Production Engineering of Prudhoe Bay
  • Ability to identify optimization opportunities and potential solutions
  • Networking to leverage these skills both internally and with Partners is also key to the position's success
