Role synopsis
The Regional Packaging Procurement Manager is accountable for the technical performance of the Packaging area; establishing the sourcing strategies and plans for regional categories of spend in line with defined category management and sourcing processes to meet the needs of the business and to ensure secure supply and give competitive advantage for the Lubricants business in the Americas region.

To work with the Americas Region business functional leaders to establish the category sourcing vision and support the execution of the global Downstream segment sourcing strategy to deliver desired business outcomes.

To manage the overall execution of packaging strategy and risk management for the Americas region to include procurement, quality, and engineering.

Key accountabilities
Category Management & Sourcing:
  • Develop regional category sourcing strategies and plans aligned to the needs of the business, identify opportunities to create business value, competitive advantage and mitigate risk in a compliant manner; plan category review timing at a macro level; understand and promote the aggregated sourcing program and milestone objectives for each category.
  • Build and maintain strong market and supplier knowledge and insight on all sub-categories within the category, becoming a source of expert knowledge.
  • Ensure all category sourcing arrangements are fully compliant to all corporate social, environmental, financial, risk, E&C and HSSE policies and standards and that all sourcing is performed in line with defined Delegations of Authority. As part of this, maintaining an effective audit trail during the entire sourcing process
  • Support the application of sourcing governance amongst Sourcing Teams, ensuring sourcing arrangements are fully compliant to all corporate social, environmental and financial risk and HSE, and that requirements such as Authority to Commit and FSA regulations are fully implemented
Supplier Performance & Relation Management:
  • Represent BP with key market segment suppliers, ensuring BP's performance requirements are understood and met.
  • Provide visible and credible support at a level to those that manage the interfaces.
  • Lead strategic supplier relationship management efforts, as appropriate, to include supply base segmentation, leading supplier relationship management review, and driving supply side innovation as required with other business stakeholders.
Business Relationship Management:
  • Engage and work collaboratively with business stakeholders within the Americas Region to enable the effective development and delivery of category sourcing strategies and plans.
Procurement Technical Competence:
  • Oversee the work with our suppliers to develop packaging designs and specifications to meet established business requirements, goals and standards.
Team Leadership & Capability Development
  • Responsible for the development, performance management and career guidance of all direct reports within the Americas Region Packaging Team.


Essential Education
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

Essential experience and job requirements
  • Procurement professional with good experience of procurement sourcing and contracting and the delivery of a broad range of business benefits (cost cash, innovation, service, compliance)
  • Experience in using advanced sourcing methodologies and tools including e-sourcing
  • Experience of negotiating and dealing with large companies / suppliers and running supplier focused innovation and performance improvement programmes
  • The ability to form good relationships with people at all levels and from a variety of backgrounds
  • The ability to network and operate effectively within a matrix structure
  • The job requires a flexible and creative individual who is able to motivate and manage the stakeholder network, to achieve the agreed objectives (without having line control)
  • The ability to review supplier capability audits and present findings


Other Requirements (e.g. Travel, Location)
Willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time in order to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

Desirable criteria & qualifications
  • Related technical knowledge pertaining to the sourcing role
  • CIPS or equivalent
  • Experience in Supply Chain and Business Management
  • Experience working with information technology & systems (knowledge and experience of Fusion Packs & Labels (FP&L) and Streamline
  • Experience of direct line management; skilled in managing teams/ personnel across a geographically dispersed team
