The purpose of the Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) Infrared gas leak technician is to minimize the gaseous emissions of methane and other light hydrocarbons from processing facilities, piping and gas wells. 

 

 
OGI surveys are conducted by OGI Technicians and used to locate and determine relative severity of light hydrocarbon gas leaks for the purpose of improving facility safety and equipment reliability. These surveys provide a basis for predictive analysis permitting maintenance to be scheduled to minimize fugitive emissions.
 
This position requires the ability to work safely with others in a team environment and the ability to communicate clearly with customers, contractors, and fellow employees.
 
Essential Functions:
 
OGI Technicians shall perform the OGI surveys which shall include but is not limited to the following:
 
  • Locate and determine relative severity of light hydrocarbon gas leaks for the purpose of improving facility safety and equipment reliability. These surveys provide a basis for predictive analysis permitting maintenance to be scheduled to minimize fugitive emissions
  • Scanning a valves, compressors or piping under static full load conditions or they may consist of more complex dynamic evolutions ie. module scanning during system start up following overhaul
  • Determine the adequacy or effectiveness of corrective actions. (e.g., leak check after maintenance and repairs)
 
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
 
  • Perform calibration of test equipment prior to conducting a survey as applicable
  • Perform qualitative surveys which shall include evaluation of the equipment and record a video clip of the area/areas of concern
  • Perform lower explosive limit (LEL) sniff test, with a ITX Multi Gas Monitor or equivalent, of the leak and also record the LEL reading
  • Record all pertinent data in Thermal Trend Lean DB or equivalent data base
  • Determine any LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) reporting requirements.
  • Walk down all identified leaks with the Area / Unit Operator / Lead Operator
  • Ability to quantify detected leaks generates additional value
  • Ability to pin-point the source of the leak or whether a complementary survey using another method will be needed
  • Ensure optical gas imaging inspections will not interfere with current operations or pose risk to other personnel in the area
  • Equipment may be operational, shutdown or isolated as determined by tasks described in the work order
  • Ability to work effectively within the clients work management system
  • Perform Pre-Survey Safety Checks to include:
    • Notify Area / Unit Operator
    • Obtain applicable permits
    • Inspect work to be performed
    • Document and report safety issues that may be encountered during the performance of related tasks
    • Technicians should be familiar with petro chemical plant equipment and processes as well as the associated safety systems.
    • Ability to perform qualitative surveys on the spot go/no go evaluation of the equipment or process being observed. These surveys may require recording a video clip of the area/areas of concern. Review previous history, Thermal Trend Lean DB or equivalent data base, for the components to be inspecte
    • Familiarity with regional production facility process as well as process safety.
    • Ability to document accurate, detailed information per industry and client standards.
    • Participate in the clients and CH2M's continuous improvement program.

  • Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear
  • Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist level x 2 with a 12 second interval
  • Lift 43 lbs. from floor to shoulder level x 2 with a 12 second interval
  • Lift 28 lbs. from floor to crown/overhead level x 2 with a 12 second interval
  • Carry 50 lbs. with two hands for a minimum distance of 30 feet x 2 allow a 60 second rest period between repetitions
  • Stairs: Walk up and down 20 steps x 5 repetitions for a total of 100 steps
  • Self-paced allow a 60 second rest break after walking up and down 50 steps
  • Climb Stairs and Carry: While carrying 30 lbs. in one hand and holding onto a railing with the other hand for safety, walk up and down 20 steps x 3 for a total of 60 steps. Self-paced but continuous, allow a 60 second rest break after walking up and down each set of 20 steps
  • Slanted Ladder: Climb up and down 30 rungs x 2 repetitions for a total of 60 rungs. Self-paced allow a 60 second rest period after a set of 30 rungs.
  • Repetitive Stoop Test: Perform from standing position, bend forward at waist as far as possible without bending the knees with hands reaching toward the floor x 10, self-paced, but continuous


 

The minimum qualifications for this position are:
  • Must have five (5) years operations experience in an oilfield hydrocarbon production/processing or equivalent experience
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Must have Thermography Level 2 or above certification and Optical Gas Imaging certificate as outlined by ANSI/ASNT CP-105 and CP-189 of the American Society for Non-Destructive Testing
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by CH2MHILL's auto insurer
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel)


The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
  • Experience working in an arctic environment
  • Certification or experience with FLIR or similar optical gas imaging cameras
