Job Description
This position may require an export license from the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. Issuance of any required license is a prerequisite for this position.
The Gas Turbine Combustion group in Charlotte is looking to fill a full time position. The Combustion group is responsible for the design and development of gas turbine combustor components of Siemens Gas Turbine frames. The group works in both R&D and Customer Order Engineering. These activities provide opportunities to work in both technical and project environments.
The candidate will work in a dynamic team with multiple interface partners including Frame, Turbine and Auxiliaries. The ability to effectively interface with both global team members and interface partners will be essential for success.

This position will further require the candidate to be able to:
• Work within a multi-disciplinary team on prototype and/or production projects
• Develop product requirements specifications in conjunction with internal and external customers
• Perform heat transfer calculations on advanced gas turbine combustor components
• Develop thermal test plans and oversee tests to develop and qualify advanced gas turbine combustion hardware
• Perform CFD/combustion modeling calculations and/or finite element structural analysis calculations on advanced gas turbine combustor components
• Coordinate university research programs in the areas of Heat Transfer, CFD, experimental testing and/or thermoacoustics

The preferred candidate will have a number of the following:
• Ability to work with and/or lead a multi-disciplinary team in a dynamic, project oriented environment
• Experience with the design of gas turbine or similar components including:
- Experience using correlation-based fluid-mechanics, mixing, and heat transfer tools to design gas turbine components
- CFD analysis (including RANS, URANS and LES) of combustion systems
- Stress analysis experience including FEA and/or ASME pressure vessel code based analysis
• Advanced knowledge of gas turbine combustion principles
• Advanced knowledge of heat transfer principles
• 3D CAD experience, especially with NX and Pro Engineer
• Experience with the manufacture of complex parts and fabrications made from stainless steels or nickel based alloys
• Experience interfacing with internal manufacturing and external suppliers to get parts manufactured within project schedules
• Experience designing parts in a high vibration and high temperature environment
• Experience with component testing for part qualification especially combustion or shaker table testing
•8+ years Experience performing heat transfer calculations on advanced gas turbine combustor components
• 8+ years Experience performing CFD calculations and/or thermo-acoustic instabilities analysis on advanced gas turbine combustor components
• 8+ years Experience designing or manufacturing turbo machinery or rotating equipment
The individual must possess as a minimum a MS or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
