JETS provides products and technical services related to human operations in space through development and integration of a broad spectrum of engineering requirements. This includes human spacecraft flight and flight development products, human exploration mission planning for NASA, institution support services, and new technology development. Our long-term client relationship with NASA has led to a need for a Pressure Systems Engineer with MRI, a JETS teammate company.



The Pressure Systems Engineer will:

  • Provide expertise to NASA Programs in the area of structural integrity and operational capability of spacecraft pressure vessels and systems. Provide expertise to JSC projects and programs relating to safe operation of ground pressure vessels and pressurized systems.
  • Advise on fracture control requirements and implementation for spacecraft pressure vessels and pressurized systems.
  • Provide expertise in the test, evaluation, qualification and acceptance of composite overwrapped pressure vessels and pressurized systems.
  • Participate in technical reviews as required. Lead the effort of identifying anomalies and serves as a technical expert providing engineering recommendations, as required for resolution of any associated problems or issues.
  • Support Fracture Control board meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:
  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and five (5) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. and zero (0) years of direct engineering experience.
  • Expert knowledge in durability, fatigue, fracture and failure analysis of pressure vessels and pressurized systems including composite overwrapped pressure vessels.
  • Expert knowledge of NASA and Industry Pressure System Standards and Codes.
  • Expert knowledge in evaluation of fracture critical material usage and development including material/hardware selection, testing, and qualification for manned spacecraft usage.
  • Knowledge of fracture control as it relates to fracture control policies, mechanics, software and hardware.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials (metals, intermetallics, ceramics, polymers, and composites) as well as extensive understanding of engineering systems (fasteners, pressure vessels, etc.) and Non-destructive Evaluation (NDE) techniques.
  • Understanding of NASA and Industry fracture and fracture control processes and standards.
  • Ability to coordinate and lead engineering teams in a matrixed organization
  • Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express technical concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels.
  • Ability to work effectively, rationally and quickly in real-time environments of rapid-change, conflicting requirements, and occasional pressure.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs (5% of time).

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
