Jacobs Technology, Inc. seeks a person to work in the Indoor Air Group on the Research Laboratory Support contract for the U.S. EPA National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL) - Air Pollution Prevention and Control Division (APPCD) - located in Research Triangle Park, NC. The work will support research related to the emissions from the production, installation and use of spray foam polyurethane foam insulation. This position involves performing the following tasks:

a.) Prepare calibration standards from neat materials (both gravimetrically and volumetrically) working in a glove bag

b.) Serial dilution of primary calibration standards to prepare working blends

c.) Calibration of analytical instrumentation

d.) Preparation of sampling media (thermal desorption tubes, sorbent tubes, filters, etc.)

e.) Support collecting samples from environmental research chambers according to sampling methods and schedules determined by the EPA client

f.) Prepare and analyze air/gas samples by GC/MS

g.)Completely document all sampling activities in appropriate laboratory notebooks

h.) Data reduction, reporting, and validation in MS Excel using the project specific format

i.) Perform all laboratory work accordance with established Jacobs and EPA safety and quality assurance protocols.

j.) Occasionally work 2nd shift for specific sampling events during proposed testing programs and schedules
k.) Work with minimal supervisionThe successful candidate must have the following:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Possess a four-year degree in a physical science such as chemistry with a working knowledge of and practice in the analytical techniques and associated instrumentation of gas-chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and two year's experience or a MS.
• Have the ability to communicate effectively; operating procedures, experimental results and data analysis in writing, using bound laboratory and electronic notebooks to Jacobs Technology and EPA personnel.
• Possess proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel
• Be able to adhere to and follow general and written laboratory methodologies, procedures and safety protocols.
• Be able to pass a Federal Background Check
Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrative experience with sample preparations/extraction
• Specific operational and maintenance experience with Agilent GC/MS systems
• Proficiency with Agilent ChemStation operation and data reduction
Experience with ambient air sample collection for testing chambers
