Qualifications:
What we are looking for

The focus of this role is on assisting our clients develop, deliver, operate and maintain their heavy and light rail passenger rolling stock projects. The clients for these projects are commonly Government departments and agencies, franchise operators or project financiers. Whilst the focus of the role is primarily rail vehicles, the Senior Associate will have sufficiently broad experience and rail industry understanding to independently advise on vehicle interfaces in terms of infrastructure, operations, regulations and rail systems including traction power supply and distribution.

The nature of the business that the Senior Associate will develop, lead and execute includes:
  • Front end studies, including strategic advice and feasibility studies
  • Technical due diligence
  • Independent verifier / independent certifier
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Procurement technical services
  • Rolling stock performance evaluation and improvement
  • Train operations and management advisory
  • Operational readiness
  • Incident investigation
  • Dispute resolution

Notwithstanding this focus, it will be significantly advantageous if the candidate has knowledge and capability across Advisian's other service lines, including strategy, business case, procurement strategy, risk, cost estimating, programming and operations improvement. It is expected that the candidate will have sufficient versatility to work across the business. Working across the various facets of our transport business is an excellent way for the Senior Associate to prepare themselves for higher level responsibilities.

The Senior Associate will be supported by a team of highly accomplished subject matter experts across Advisian equipped with the best analytic tools available and with access to an extensive repository of transport knowledge.

Your skills set will incorporate excellent written and oral communication; client engagement and stakeholder management; engineering, commerce; risk analysis; project management and project delivery services.

At a minimum you will have:
  • A degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Systems Engineering. A double degree in business, finance or economics is advantageous
  • Legacy experience in railway consulting business, with extensive experience in heavy or light passenger rail rolling stock
  • Chartered engineering status with EA or equivalent
  • Comprehensive knowledge of EMU and Light rail vehicle systems, interfaces and standards. Deep domain knowledge of all systems, interfaces and standards is not necessary. The emphasis on technical competency is breadth of vehicle systems and interfaces knowledge.
  • Thorough understanding of the Australian passenger rail industry; operators, buyers and suppliers, and regulatory framework
  • Experience in providing project and business solutions to clients in the public transport domain mandatory
  • Proven ability to develop business in the public transport domain
  • Strong team organisation and collaboration skills
  • Very high standards of service delivery and particularly in written deliverables
