We are hiring a Senior Nuclear Licensing Engineer to be based out of the Prairie Islande Nuclear Generating Plant in Welch, MN.
 
Position Summary
This senior position performs licensing engineering activities in support of the safe, reliable and efficient operations of the nuclear generation power plants at a Plant and Fleet expert level. Primary responsibilities include communications with the NRC, licensing activities, and preparing regulatory requirements. Additional responsibilities include overseeing other junior engineers. 

Essential Responsibilities
  • Coordinates communications with the NRC; coordinates and conducts management and technical meetings.
  • Prepares licensing actions such as; technical specification changes, license amendments, conducts, researches and develops licensing basis positions from available information such as historical regulatory correspondence.
  • Prepares regulatory correspondence, primarily with the NRC, to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains awareness of plant operational status and events for consideration of compliance and reportability concerns; communicates with management as necessary.
  • Supports ongoing operations at the nuclear sites and is jointly accountable with site personnel for the sites meeting their excellence plans.  Interfaces with Fleet and Site management teams as required to meet vision and mission of NSPM.
  • Provides compliance oversight on selected or assigned regulatory issues.
  • Provides site regulatory affairs support as directed.
  • Attend Department and plant meetings and represents the Company at industry events or activities.
  • Attend training and complete other duties and/or projects as assigned by department leadership.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • 8 or more years engineering experience with satisfactory performance and demonstrated expertise in problem solving in nuclear generating plants accompanied by demonstrated expertise in at least one engineering discipline area is required; (note: equivalent years of engineering experience in electrical power plant experience industrial, naval or Outreach Engineering Management (OEM) may be considered in lieu of up to one half of nuclear generation experience).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain qualifications for unescorted access to Xcel Energy's nuclear power plants is an essential requirement of the position.
  • May be required to assume emergency response duties and live within 30 or 60 minutes from the nuclear generation station. Required to maintain nuclear "fitness for duty" during off hours if on call or designated emergency response duty.
 
Preferred
  • Previous Work experience in nuclear licensing is highly desired.
  • Nuclear Operational or Engineering experience is desired in the absence of licensing experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • SRO License or certification.
