Job Description:

Works independently to perform non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, using operational precedents which are not fully applicable. Such assignments, which are typically parts of broader assignments, are screened to eliminate unusual design problems. May also plan such assignments. Receives technical advice from supervisor or engineer; work is reviewed for technical adequacy (or conformity with instructions). Develops or reviews designs by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering data. Applies conventional engineering practices to develop, prepare, or recommend schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings and parts lists. Examples of designs include: detailed circuit diagrams; hardware fittings or test equipment involving a variety of mechanisms; conventional piping systems; and building site layouts. Conducts tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and test procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records data, measures and records problems of significant complexity that sometimes require resolution at a higher level; and analyzes data and prepares test reports. Applies methods outlined by others to limited segments of research and development projects; constructs experimental or prototype models to meet engineering requirements; conducts tests or experiments and redesigns as necessary; and records and evaluates data and reports findings. Performs inventory management and prepares supply requests.
Qualifications:

7 yrs. applicable experience; or at least 60 credit hours or an Associate's Degree and 5 yrs. applicable experience; or 30 credit hours and 6 yrs. applicable experience; or completion of a formal training program and 5 yrs. applicable experience; or a Bachelor's Degree and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or a Master's Degree and 1 yr. applicable experience. For Technician IV, Computer Cabling/Networks must possess a training certificate that would document their professional training in the area of fiber cable termination practices.

Technician specialized areas include: General, Electronic, Environmental, Range Control, Range Support, Test Participant, and Training Range.



Essential Functions Form:

UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION

May require sitting in front of a computer for extended periods of time (70%). The ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, reach above shoulder level and climb into or under a vehicle is required (up to 50%). Walking a minimum of 50 yards over rough terrain is required (25%). The ability to push and pull as well as lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required (up to 50%).

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment may be inside or outside, depending on the task. The ability to work in outside field conditions that include hot and cold extreme temperatures, and other outdoor climatic conditions (25%). Must be able to work in areas where only portable restroom facilities are available (25%). Work environment may be fast-paced and require work under pressure to meet deadlines associated with the completion of a task. Position will require multiple task efforts.

EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS

Conducts test and evaluations on various types of automotive equipment, which requires a working knowledge of various types of thermocouples, data acquisition, and /or other electronic test equipment. Uses a variety of standard references, guides, and precedents to obtain needed information. Must have a working knowledge of computers in order to provide various reports as required. Work may require being around moving machinery and equipment. Must be able to wear all required personnel protective equipment supporting the various tasks. Work may require driving auto equipment, forklifts as well as other equipment.

CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE

Attendance is critical at all times during normal duty hours. Work outside of normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required with as little as one-hour advance notice.

OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must be able to communicate effectively. May be required to direct work assignments of other personnel associated with assigned tasks. Must be able to obtain an interim secret security clearance in order to gain access to required areas, networks and systems within thirty (30) days of date of your offer letter. Must be able to obtain and retain a secret security clearance. Must be able to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Must be able to obtain and retain unescorted access to work areas. May be subject to hearing tests, laser eye exam, and complete blood count. May be subject to other physicals or exams if required to wear a respirator or are designated by the COR to have other physicals due to the work area in which you are assigned. If working with depleted uranium, an Urinbioassay and Invivo lung scan may also be required. May be subject to exposure to noise, vibration, radiation, temperature extremes, lead, petroleum, oil, lubricants, dusts, and solvents. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. Must have a valid driver's license and personal transportation for the purpose of moving around the proving ground to accomplish job functions and in order to operate a rental vehicle if and when travel is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a military driver's license within 30 days of employment.
