GMSC Strategic Communications SME Job Description



SME shall provide support the mission of synchronizing messaging and coordination of engagement awareness and assessment across the SOF Enterprise. This SME shall also ensure alignment of institutional messages, key staff engagements, and command actions. Tasks include:
  • Facilitate, support, coordinate, conduct research, analyze data, and develop solutions and courses of action to the Command's Strategic and Key Leader Engagement Synchronization tools, plans and processes
  • Provide analysis and advice to Command's Enabling Mission Integrated Planning Team
  • Facilitate, support, coordinate, conduct research, analyze data, and develop solutions and courses of action to the International engagement strategy
Minimum Education/Experience Requirement: Master's degree required in Strategic Communications, Management or a related field and at least five (5) years of work experience directly related to Strategic communications with twenty (20) years' prior military experience.

Required skills include:
  • 3 years' experience with strategic communications plans and processes; shall be well versed in all branches of the U.S. military and have a working knowledge of the joint service environment and of strategic communications concepts and USSOCOM core competencies
  • 5 years' experience as a staff officer within HQ USSOCOM, a Service headquarters, or a combatant command headquarters (4-Star military HQ)
  • 5 years' experience using communication skills, both written and oral, to include preparation of written products for senior leader (general officer/flag officer/senior executive service level) use and the ability to communicate at all levels
  • 3 years' experience working with USSOCOM, subordinate organizations, DOD, and knowledge of each military U.S. military service's roles and missions


Must be willing to travel to various CONUS and OCONUS non-hazardous locations.



Current DoD Top Secret clearance and eligible for SCI access required.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Work will be performed inside a large facility. Work assignments vary based on client requirements. Position could require some night and weekend work. Travel is required to various CONUS and OCONUS non-hazardous locations based on client requirements.

Physical Requirements

Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC or laptop. Filing required. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files up to 25 lbs. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.

Equipment and Machines

General office equipment, which includes: telephone, fax machine, copier, PC/laptop, and other miscellaneous office equipment.

Attendance

Work assignments dependent on requirements by the client. It is important to be able to work at least 8 hours a day for 5 days per week (Monday through Friday).

Other Essential Functions

Candidate must exhibit a professional behavior that promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation, and enhances productivity in the workplace. Must be well organized with the ability to coordinate, prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to work effectively with a variety of government, military and contractor personnel at all levels. Must be able to interface effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Grooming and dress usually business casual, but dependent on client's standards. Must not pose a safety hazard to employees working in the same general area.
