In this position, a Principal Manufacturing Engineer can expect to perform the following duties:
  • Support implementation of Value Analysis/Value Engineering, Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturing principles during the design process.
  • Work with Design Engineering to ensure the integrity and clarity of engineering drawing requirements and that all expectations are communicated effectively to support suppliers.
  • Perform evaluations of Suppliers and the supply base to include sourcing requirements, manufacturing capability, capacity, and associated risks.
  • Create Manufacturing and Process Plan estimates for use in design option selection or validation of cost and schedule.
  • Hold Design and Manufacturability Review meetings with Supplier, Design Engineering, and Sourcing to facilitate selection of acceptable design modifications to improve cost and schedule.
  • Execute Value Studies in support of Supplier Improvement Plans (SIP) and Cost Improvement Plans (CIP).
  • As necessary, establish level 3 fabrication schedules, hold the supplier accountable to meet the schedules, and measure and report schedule compliance.
  • Collaborating with Design Engineering on identifying product attributes that are critical to quality, critical manufacturing processes, and supplier risks to designate witness & hold points on supplier quality plans
  • Link between WEC engineering and supplier manufacturing when needed to resolve technical issues and communicate to WEC engineering potential improvements in the design for future projects. (Design for manufacturability).

Job Requirements
The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience required
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 10+ years relevant experience required.  Preferred experience to include: machining, welding and assembly of components,lean engineering and continuous improvement, ASME code (preferred), Application of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M-1994
  • Good interpersonal, project management and presentation skills with the ability to clearly present recommendations and ideas and to summarize complex issues
  • Ability to lead a cross-functional team to identify and achieve desired business results
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to solve complex problems and use good judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly regulated environment
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time, both domestically and internationally
