Position Summary

This leader will be responsible for the delivery of a team of 15 mechanical engineers, 5 process engineers, and a 10 person piping design team. He/she will report to the Manager of Engineering. Work is reviewed in terms of meeting the organization's objectives and schedules. Responsible for all projects assigned to unit. Frequent contacts with equivalent level managers concerning projects, operational decisions or scheduling requirements.

  • Consults with engineering team and managers on technical problems, staffing requirements, effort-hour estimates, and schedule issues in relation to commitments for project deliverables
  • Assigns work to project teams, ensuring the best utilization of their talents and skills sets for the specific project requirements
  • Monitors progress and performance and assures quality standards are maintained
  • Demonstrates customer focus in all actions
  • Reviews the effort-hour estimates with the project leads
  • Establishes and maintains a set of work instructions, procedures, specifications, and technical guidelines relative to the mechanical section
  • Actively monitors project staffing requirements to align with project needs
  • Organizes and facilitates department meetings
  • Initiates and approves routine performance appraisals for assigned personnel utilizing formal company performance review process
  • Contributes to the training and development of staff and the department.
  • Responsible for delivery of the piping design team, as the piping lead reports to the Mechanical and Process Team Department Manager.
  • Work on projects as a Technical Consultant as required (billable)
  • Develop and maintain toolsets to be used on projects, and processes for using tools
  • Employ department/company processes and procedures, and ensure compliance by staff
  • Implement and maintain QA/QC standards for the work of the group (working with QC Mgr)
  • Maintain responsibility for oversight of all group deliverables regarding quality and schedule
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients, and seek feedback on staff performance
  • Seek out specialists when needed for specific expertise on projects
  • Coordinate workshare activities with other Jacobs offices
  • Promote Teamwork (internally and between disciplines)
  • May act as the overall PM for any projects that do not have a bona-fide PM from the PM department overseeing them. Typically, this means take responsibility for PM functions on single discipline projects that a Lead from your department has been assigned to as Lead or PE. Be responsible for overseeing the technical quality, correctness, checking, budget, schedule, deliverables, etc.

  • Recognized Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering from an accredited college or University required
  • 15+ years' of experience with engineering design of offshore oil and gas production facilities is required
  • Leadership traits and abilities required
  • Demonstrates a broad technical knowledge of engineering, and project execution required
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Registered Professional Engineering license required
