The General Maintenance Technician performs duties required in support of Field Maintenance Operations.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Perform piping spool/valve installation and removal, rigging, blinding and minor pipe fitting including structural steel type fitting and bolt up
  • Perform manual labor including operating small hand tools and power tools (buffer/grinders, saw-zalls, drills, shovels, etc.), and carrying and lifting materials (cribbing, shoveling snow, and other activities)
  • Assist building scaffold with qualified scaffold builder
  • Performs manual labor supporting scaffolding activity, such as cleanup, hauling, stacking materials, shoveling, stacking pipe skids, moving supports, handling steel material and valves
  • Promote safe work practices and adhere to company and client safety policies and procedures for work performed, including proper hazard recognition and mitigation of task
  • Demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures and accept accountability for safe work practices
  • Routinely perform safety and productivity observations; shop, field, and vehicle inspections
  • Demonstrate support for the company's environmental management system
  • Cleanup of tools, equipment and work areas
  • Attend various components of technical, developmental and safety training
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
 
  • Knowledge of structural and mechanical piping maintenance operations
  • Knowledge of various skilled and/or unskilled tasks as required for a piping maintenance operations
  • Working knowledge of rigging and bolt-up procedures
  • Knowledge of and ability in blinding and pipefitting techniques
  • Knowledge of piping, valve installation and specifications
  • Ability to perform piping spool installation and removal
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be capable of performing assigned tasks with limited general technical guidance
  • Ability to read mechanical blueprints
  • Ability to maintain and disassemble petroleum equipment
  • Ability to erect scaffolds
  • Ability to maintain and disassemble petroleum equipment
  • Ability to remove pipeline insulation removal
  • Ability to follow all policies and procedures and work in a safe and productive manner
Physical Demand/Work Environment:

  • Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear
  • Lift 56 lbs from floor to knuckles x 2 with a 12 second interval
  • Lift 56 lbs from floor to waist x 2 with a 12 second interval
  • Lift 56 lbs from floor to shoulders x 2 with a 12 second interval
  • Carry 40 lbs with two hands for a distance of 25 ft x 2 repetitions, (allow 60 seconds rest between reps)
  • Stairs: Climb up and down 450 steps. Self-paced (allow 60 seconds rest after walking up and down each 60 steps (i.e., Seven 60 second rest breaks during entire test)
  • Slanted Ladder: Climb up and down 12 rungs, x 10 for a total of 120 rungs (Self-paced; allow 60 seconds rest period after climbing up and down each set of 24 rungs.)
  • Repetitive Stoop Test: Perform from standing position, bend forward at waist as far as possible without bending the knees with hands reaching toward the floor x 10, self-paced, but continuous
  • Repetitive Kneel Test: Perform from standing, kneel on one knee, alternate from left to right knee, x 10 each knee
  • Repetitive. Squat Test: Perform a functional squat and stand x 10
  • Twist and Flex Test: Perform from standing alternate toe touches x 10 to each side to assess ability to twist and flex the trunk repetitively

The minimum qualifications for this position are:
  • Previous experience working in two or more of the following disciplines: mechanical piping, structural and scaffold disciplines, rigging, bolt up, pipefitting installation
  • Completion of scaffold erection competent person training within 90 days of hire
  • One or more of the following Equipment Certification required: telehandler (zoom boom), forklift, loader, manlift within 90 days of hire
  • Valid driver's license including ability to be insured by CH2M's auto insurer
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED


The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
  • Petrochemical, oilfield or arctic experience


Candidates must successfully complete all required pre-employment requirements including physical, drug screen and background check

This position is located on the North Slope and requires a rotational work schedule.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme weather conditions. An individual will be required to work the majority of hours in an industrial environment and will need to be able to quickly respond to a change in work demands.  Must be able to routinely lift up to 40 lb. Attainment of a North Slope Training Certification (NSTC) via completion of modules CH2M will schedule and cover program costs for Fitness for Duty Evaluations, drug tests, and NSTC training for job candidates.
