The Senior Mechanical / Component Engineering Engineer will drive customer fulfillment and supplier support activities for composite wind turbine parts.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Senior Mechanical / Component Engineering Engineer, you will:
  • Work with little supervision and provide guidance to less experienced engineers to accomplish:
    • Design ownership of large composite wind turbine blades, nacelles and spinners
    • Analyze composite structures using finite element methods
    • Direct the creation of and own component drawings
    • Simplify processes used in the execution of design ownership

  • Qualify suppliers to produce components to drawing intent to meet life, performance, & cost requirements during serial production
  • Support manufacturing issues and disposition deviations from drawings
  • Work proactively internally and with suppliers to improve product quality and robustness
  • Innovate new repairs and manufacturing methods for composite wind components
  • Support composite component certification
  • Disposition customer blades experiencing damage in handling or operation
  • Lead field issue Root Cause Analysis investigations
  • Support programs for services improvements or megawatt rating increases
  • Support cost reduction for existing composite components
  • Interface with Supplier Quality, Fleet Support & other global teams to solve supplier and customer issues


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in an engineering position or related

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

    Desired Characteristics

  • Advanced Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working in wind blade industry or related
  • Strong understanding of general physics and mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Experience in structural design of composite components
  • Experience with manufacture of composites
  • Proven interpersonal skills in a global team
  • Proven communication skills in both written and oral English
  • Passionate about driving quality for best-in-class component designs
  • Awareness of competing technologies & components in the wind market
