Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

Focuses on quality control activities within Gas Operations. Charged to identify, track, report and trend all quality related functions associated with the execution of related to field service PG&E construction projects. These functions will routinely involve review of the implementation of PG&E gas standards, procedures, and policy work performed by construction personnel (both internal and external) in order to ensure timely, accurate, and complete asset data which is gathered, mapped, and stored in company systems of record.


- 5 years of relevant experience at journeyman status or 5 years equivalent experience in gas infrastructure or quality control.
- One year of gas quality control specialist experience
- Valid CA Driver's License or ability to obtain by Day One of employment
- High School Diploma or GED

- Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, Construction, Civil or Mechanical Engineering
- Utility experience
- Experience serving and meeting the needs of internal and/or external customer
- Quality auditing or Lean Six Sigma training
- Strong technical computer and project management skills
- NACE Level 1


- Monitor Gas Construction related construction activities to ensure that all quality related practices are meeting required standards.
- Develop detailed reports of QC findings from field and communicate in a timely manner to leadership
- Ensures accurate, consistent, and fair assessment practices
- Ensure adherence to PG&E and department policies and procedures.
- Helps drive work quality improvement within the field service organization
- Supports the performance of quality investigations when issues are identified for the development of appropriate corrective actions (ex. apparent cause, root cause investigations, etc.)
- Demonstrate ability to develop working relationships with customers and business partners where operations, service, support or other inter-dependencies exist
- Monitors compliance to standards and specifications, to achieve high quality work the first time done.
- Identifies and pursues productivity improvements and implements work practices to reduce operating costs while meeting corporate and regulatory compliance
- Completes and maintains all work documentation and/or reporting
- Develops the business knowledge and technical skills of all field employees. Fosters teamwork within work group and across all company functions
- Ensures full compliance with the Injury & Illness Prevention Program, working closely with area Safety Program Coordinators
- Oversees both projects and 2nd party contracting within the area of responsibility
- Ensures mandated compliance dates and regulations are met
- Reviews all department maintenance documents for accuracy and completeness prior to filing for future reference or for audit purposes
- Travel up to 50% throughout the service territory
