Position Summary

Sustainability Engineering is the process of designing, building and operating building systems (i.e. Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC), electrical, plumbing) that rely on energy conservation and an on-site renewable generation to reduce heating, cooling and electrical needs. Tasks to be accomplished include:

  • Provide senior level facility sustainability engineering expertise through the life cycle of the this program, a mega project (planning, design, construction, transition to operations, deployment and operations & maintenance).
  • Help ensure the overall design incorporates appropriate capabilities and technologies to enable compliance with all Federal regulations regarding energy conservation and environmental protection.
  • Research and present opportunities with organizations such as the Department of Energy and programs like the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) to receive funding related to energy management.
  • Through briefings or other informal training procedures, help educate the Team members and the Client workforce about Sustainable engineering to help encourage a workforce culture that desires to be energy conscience.
  • Sustainability engineering interface with US Army Corps of Engineers - the design and construction agent for the Client.
  • Support meetings and forums as directed by the Team and the Client.
  • Perform sustainability technical reviews of facility programming study to ensure compliance with the Client's sustainability requirements and are within prescribed budget.
  • Participate in sustainability Focus Group in support of facility programming studies.
  • Monitor progress and generally facilitate progress and completion of sustainability related tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Complete an analysis on energy management opportunities.
  • Develop a sustainability strategy to educate the Client workforce by the end of calendar year 2016. The communication strategy will need to be communicated with the Transformation & Engagement team as well as the SIO (Installation Operations Office) policy team.

  • Must have demonstrated recent experience (10 years minimum) in the area of Sustainable Engineering related to design and construction of complex vertical facilities supporting a high-technology mission.
  • Must be familiar with the latest trends and state-of-the-art technologies pertaining to sustainability engineering practices in facility design, construction, renovations, space management, construction delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, Early Contractor Involvement, etc.) and knowledge management to ensure that major capital development projects meet the owner's current and future requirements.
  • BS Engineering,or related, from an accredited program required
  • Must have experience (10 years minimum) in inspecting quality and adherence to specifications of both construction documents (plans, specifications and design analysis) and work in place on large (over $50M) federal construction projects.
  • Professional engineer license is required (can be issued from any U.S. state).
  • US Citizenship is required
  • Active TS+ clearance required
  • Certifications related to energy conservations such as a Certified Commissioning Authority, Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or in Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED), or their military equivalent, are desired.
  • Evidence of having lead innovative achievements in sustainable design is desired
