Our client, a large exploration and production company, is seeking a Category Specialist III to work within their facilities located Anchorage, Alaska.

The Role You Will Play
  • The Category Specialist is expected to provide support and guidance in all aspects of procurement and supply chain management to the company's business unit; this includes understanding and providing strategic advice on procurement and supply chain options and risks, implementing agreed strategies to source the goods and services needed, negotiating and executing contracts, and assuring effective post-award contract and performance management. The Category Specialist participates in and may lead the development and execution of sourcing initiatives, and develops and executes sourcing strategies in alignment with applicable market sector and commodity strategies. To be successful, the role requires understanding the local business objectives and desired outcomes, engaging internal customers, understanding options and risks associated with supply chain activities, building supplier relationships in order to achieve superior supplier performance, negotiating commercial terms to deliver best value solutions, and the measurement/reporting of the value delivered.

Job Responsibilities
  • Works with the relevant market sector and commodity managers to implement sourcing processes to ensure delivery of business plans and market sector/commodity strategies
  • Develops sourcing strategies in alignment with applicable market sector / commodity strategies and specific business objectives (both local and global)
  • Understands business requirements for third party goods and services
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of relevant supply market places
  • Engages the business and provides guidance on PSCM process and risk management
  • Manages supplier relationships, engagement and involvement
  • Leads the full sourcing process which includes development of scope, supplier selection, commercial negotiation, and contract execution
  • Provides on-going contract cost management and risk assessment
  • Champions and supports the deployment of the appropriate purchase to pay solution
  • Ensures the PSCM common processes are implemented, used and continually improved
  • Coaches less experienced PSCM staff
  • Participates in company networks, sharing information, best practices and lessons learned
  • Interfaces where relevant with the global procurement team
  • Effective utilization of the company's global procurement team to deliver sourcing activities
  • Works closely with Service Delivery Leads and Service Delivery Coordinators to assure sourcing delivery to the business stakeholders
  • Determines sourcing strategies in alignment with applicable market sector / commodity strategies and specific business objectives
  • Engages the business and provide guidance on PSCM process and risk management
  • Conducts the full sourcing process which includes development of scope, supplier selection, commercial negotiation and contract execution
  • Ensures post-award contract and performance management processes are implemented
  • Provides ongoing contract cost management and risk assessment
  • Participates in company networks, sharing information, best practices and lessons learned
  • Engages the team to follow the PSCM procedures
  • Works with suppliers to bring up to speed their operations to meet the client's requirements
  • Keeps costs under control
  • Identifies risks and creates and implements mitigation plans
  • Ensures that performance management processes are in place
  • Provides support and guidance in all aspects of the end to end procurement process
  • Responsible for forming and implementing sourcing and contract strategies, including contract risk assessments, mitigation plans, cost review, analysis, and management
  • Responsible for the full sourcing process, RFI, RFP, bid organization, review, and supplier selection
  • Completion of the contract process; negotiation of contract terms and rates, contract execution, price book creation and maintenance
  • Provides ongoing contract maintenance; contract review, amendment, replacement, and termination
  • Creates and maintains vendor relationships and vendor performance management
  • Builds stakeholder relationships, provides procurement advice and assists with scope creation and review
  • Participates in knowledge improvement, engages in project teams to create new process and increases efficiency in existing processes
  • Collaborates with local and global sectors inside and outside procurement
  • Collaborates with legal to review contract language and creates new contact language when applicable
  • Creates contract reports and provides database maintenance (ex. Ariba, CID, CDD, SRM)
  • Responsible for new vendor set up and vendor account maintenance (contact information and banking details)
  • Reviews and processes contract requests, purchase orders, and purchase order maintenance
  • Directs and collaborates with global procurement team
  • Understands the invoice process, assistance with invoice exception review and mitigation
  • Supports the Savings & Efficiency agenda through negotiation, sourcing and reporting
  • Leads the global procurement team in Ariba Captainship

Background Profiles
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required; field of study should be Supply Chain/Procurement, Business, or Engineering
  • Professional PSCM qualification or equivalent is preferred but not required
  • Previous relevant PSCM experience preferably in oil and gas industry is highly desired
  • Able to demonstrate the following: interpersonal skills (skillful application); partnership and teamwork (basic application); negotiating and influencing (skillful application); contract execution and management (skillful application); supply chain risk management (skillful application)
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with diverse personality types, organizational levels, and professional disciplines
