Are you looking to work in an exciting and dynamic role with the chance to influence the power generation industry and develop materials knowledge to be used in power plant applications? If so, we are looking for a Power Plant Metallurgist to join our Swindon team.

Role description Our Plant Integrity Team provides specialist support to our plants and consultancy services to power generation in the UK and overseas- this opportunity is within our Materials Group, who deals with all aspects of power plant component integrity and remnant life prediction.

In this role, you will develop and apply component creep assessment techniques to support boiler plant in hard coal, gas and biomass power station operations, whilst delivering pressure part technical reviews, testing and analysis service to assess and remedy component degradation. Your responsibility will cover technical custodian for creep life management and will extend across boiler headers, heat exchanger tubing, main steam pipe work and steam chests and valves, giving you impact on key areas of our operations.

Skills and experience Together with a Materials or Mechanical Engineering degree, you will ideally bring experience of high temperature boiler materials, materials degradation, knowledge of pressure part regulations and assessment techniques with particular emphasis on BS EN 12952-4 calculation methods. A strong background in power industry operations or maintenance is desirable but you will possess outstanding fault finding and problem solving skills plus a creative yet methodical approach.
