Department Overview

The purpose of Learning Services is to provide effective training processes that close plant performance gaps, contribute to safe and reliable plant operations, and achieve renewed accreditation by the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) for all Diablo Canyon training programs.

Position Summary

You will conduct training through classroom instruction and laboratory activities via the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT). You will be responsible for the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation (ADDIE) of training programs predominately for Electrical Maintenance. You may be requested to support any of the company's training programs.

New instructors will be trained and qualified in the Systematic Approach to Training process.

Obtain and maintain instructor qualifications, certifications, and technical proficiency. Perform Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties. Hold an outage position (when requested and supported by management).

To obtain and maintain employment at DCPP, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check for unescorted access to the plant, a psychological screen, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.


- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of experience in electrical maintenance or similar technical subject area.

- Fully qualified instructor at a nuclear power plant (INPO ICP).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Time management and prioritization skills.
- Strong relationship management ability.
- Skilled at problem solving.
- Project management skills.


- Analyze subject material for new and revised training.
- Use the design process to determine performance training and evaluation guides (PTEGs), establish training settings, sequence training objectives, and identify test items from the objectives.
- Develop lessons for classroom and laboratory settings, PTEG performance evaluations, and test questions.
- Implements developed training by being prepared to present the material and ensuring the instructional facilities and resources are adequate and ready to provide a quality learning experience
- Evaluate training process by the collection of data, including test results, feedback, and the performance of post training evaluations.
- Model and reinforce management expectations. Engage students in classrooms and labs to improve the safety culture.
- Apply human performance tools and provide coaching to reinforce safety behaviors utilizing the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant (DCPP) Site Standards Handbook (SSH).
- Include as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) topics that cover minimizing exposure and contaminations in classroom and lab material and discussions. - Encourage and facilitate employee involvement in the training process.
- Ensure that classroom and laboratory housekeeping exemplifies management expectations.
- Model and reinforce management expectations for the use of human performance tools and techniques to include coaching and acknowledging students when appropriate.
- Perform management observations in training settings as well as in the plant.
- Present information using a variety of instructional techniques and formats such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos, and lectures.
