Socio-Cultural Dynamics (SCD)/Human Terrain (HT) Analyst Job Description:

Socio-Cultural Dynamics (SCD)/Human Terrain (HT) Analysts will supply SCD/HT subject matter expertise for research and analysis of human terrain information for IW/UW in support of SOCEUR. The SCD/HT Analysts shall:
  • Provide the initial cultural and social overview for specified geographic areas of interest and continue to research the cultural information for the area to prepare detailed analyses of the population and fractions thereof
  • Synthesize detailed atmospherics information (e.g., cultural/social leaders, group dynamics, assessment of the attitudes, social norms, values of the local populace, etc.) to provide intelligence assessments in support of operational planning based on specific requirements
  • Reference historical literature that highlights atmospherics, identifies differences/feuds, and sympathies of populations and fractions thereof
  • Manually extract Human Terrain and Socio-Cultural information from a multitude of documents, websites, books, and cartographic materials
  • Working level knowledge of ArcGIS applications and capabilities to ensure cross communication among analysts on each TSOC team
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in a social science discipline (such as anthropology, sociology, political science, or development economics) and six (6) years of Military or DOD experience working with intelligence, special operations, Inter-Agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations and/or civil affairs organizations or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have documented SCD/HT experience either through military/cultural experience and/or academic background.

Must have an active TS level security clearance with SCI eligibility.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Work will be performed inside a large facility. Work assignments vary based on client requirements. Position could require some night and weekend work. Travel may be required to various CONUS and OCONUS non-hazardous locations based on client requirements.

Physical Requirements

Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC or laptop. Filing required. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files up to 25 lbs. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.

Equipment and Machines

General office equipment, which includes: telephone, fax machine, copier, PC/laptop, and other miscellaneous office equipment.


Work assignments dependent on requirements by the client. It is important to be able to work at least 8 hours a day for 5 days per week (Monday through Friday).

Candidate must exhibit a professional behavior that promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation, and enhances productivity in the workplace. Must be well organized with the ability to coordinate, prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to work effectively with a variety of government, military and contractor personnel at all levels. Must be able to interface effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Grooming and dress usually business casual, but dependent on client's standards. Must not pose a safety hazard to employees working in the same general area.
