CH2M is looking for a motivated professional to join The Traffic Engineering Division of the City of Johns Creek Public Works Department. CH2M has provided services to our client in Johns Creek, GA since 2006 when the City incorporated and partnered in a public/private partnership with CH2M. Johns Creek is in Fulton County, GA and is an upscale community with a population of 77,000.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Traffic Engineer plans, organizes, and coordinates traffic and transportation engineering studies, prepares designs for traffic engineering projects, conducts traffic studies and collects traffic engineering data in the field. The following duties are representative of the range of duties:
• Manage and assist in maintaining the city's ITS infrastructure
• Manage and assist in maintaining the city's signal infrastructure
• Assist in managing the city's maintenance contractors
• Collect signing, striping and signal inventory data
• Develop traffic signal timing parameters for new installations
• Analyze traffic count data
• Evaluate and update, as necessary, existing signal timing
• Evaluate signal system and traffic operations center status and alarms
• Perform traffic calming studies; recommend traffic calming solutions
• Perform crash data analysis and develop crash diagrams; develop and maintain high accident location list, recommend solutions, and monitor results
• Prepare or oversee the preparation of technical drawings, schematics and installation plans for traffic control devices;
• Receive and respond to traffic and transportation concerns and issues; determine and recommend appropriate resolutions to maintain positive community/customer relations
• Assist in the preparation of grant applications including analyzing current and future traffic needs
• Assist in the preparation of reports and correspondence related to divisional activities, direction, accomplishments, etc.
• Participate in meetings with other departments, outside agencies, commissions, and citizen groups to provide information on engineering standards and guidelines

The minimum qualifications for this position are:
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in civil or traffic engineering or a closely related field; and
• Five years recent experience in traffic or transportation engineering
• Thorough knowledge of traffic and transportation engineering principles, as necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities
• Ability to use independent judgment as situations warrant
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License with a clean driving record

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
Preferred Qualifications
• Five to ten years' experience in traffic and/or transportation engineering
• Municipal traffic-related experience
• Ability to assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear and effective manner
• Strong verbal and written communications skills as well as the ability to write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar
• Strong interpersonal relationship skills with the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other employees, government officials, contractors, suppliers, and the general public
