Director of Contract Services

Overview:

This role will be South Africa based with an African focus. The candidate will also be responsible for the development and growth offering within the African business.

The core services are Intelligent Procurement, Contract Drafting, Contract Management, Claim Management, Expert witness and Case Management. The role includes building a team with capability and capacity and winning opportunities to deliver these services.

Will take responsibility for the end to end service delivery within the department and also be required to protect interests and to provide contractual advice of a legal nature, where required, to other divisions and to clients as and when required.

You will be required to support and manage contracts to service providers (project teams) as well as manage the execution of multiple project contracts (including site works and services, consultants, engineering, designing, EPC, EPCM or other formats) from the contract award stage until proper close-out of projects including overseeing any disputes and claims that may arise thereto.

Requirements:

Business Growth:
  • Profit and Loss performance in Africa, in line with the set business targets;
  • Development of and implementation of the business growth strategy to achieve the fee generation and profit targets;
  • Manage all live ongoing work with premium clients -Lead the work winning process through the use of contacts already known to the company and also using your own network;
  • Responsibility for the recruitment of staff;
  • Responsible for the training and supervision of members of staff both fee earning and administrative;
  • Able to balance fee earning and business management and staff management work successfully
  • Responsible for staff deployment, development, planning to achieve the billable utilisation targets;
  • Responsible for the business unit's compliance with statutory and internal business management processes and systems;
  • To pro-actively integrate with global management to develop, in a cooperative manner, the growth of the global practice.

Work Experience:
  • Procurement Coordination will be to provide oversight/monitoring of Employer/Contractor performance and management of contractor commercial interfaces.
  • Management of cost control interfaces to major Employer/Contractors, integrating these activities into our clients finance system and providing effective commitment control of contract spend.
  • Support for the contracts interface for the clients end users through effective application of the contracting and procurement processes.
  • Solid experience with major contractors (build or civils contractor) with related claims work experience;
  • Experienced in preparing claims or undertaking compensating events/ extension of time/ variation/ pricing of extra work/ negotiation in a contracting capacity;
  • Project experience on larger projects is preferred, but candidates with specific strong experience on smaller piling/groundwork claims with smaller players also desirable.
  • Research and produce claims correspondence and submissions to the clients;
  • Provide support to Employer/Contractor in client negotiations;
  • Act in a supporting role assisting with the interpretation and preparation of claims strategies;
  • Act as advisory body regarding matters relevant to construction claims which will include dispute avoidance and construction contracts administration;
  • To actively contribute to the development and delivery of the full range of claims services;
  • Support the marketing of Claims/Dispute Services.
  • Solid experience with major contractors (build or civils contractor) as a Quantity Surveyor with related claims work experience
  • Experienced in preparing claims or undertaking compensating events/ extension of time/ variation/ pricing of extra work/ negotiation in a contracting QS capacity
  • Project experience on larger projects is preferred, but candidates with specific strong experience on smaller piling/groundwork claims with smaller players also desirable.

Qualifications:

To be part of the Africa team and will report directly to the Global head of contract services and to the Africa Regional MD and South African MD on all matters across all clients and sectors.

Ideally have dual qualifications (QS/Engineer and a legal qualification). Qualification and/or professional body registration in the following:
  • Engineering;
  • Project Controls delivery, including:
    • Quantity Surveying
    • Cost Engineering
    • Procurement
    • Project Management
  • Law;
  • Experience in providing claims management and dispute resolution services desirable;
  • A track record of fee earning, managing a team of staff and of being responsible for a business or a cost centre within a business is needed;
