Airswift are currently in the market for a Safety Engineer. This role will be working for a global petrochemical organization based in Louisiana.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Plans, implements and coordinates process safety programs
  • Applies engineering principles and technology to process and operational safety programs
  • Design and Construction phases:
    • Verifies, during construction, agreed designs installed to meet regulatory requirements
    • Ensures that a management of change process is implemented
    • Prevents or corrects unsafe environmental working conditions with the facility design
  • Commissioning phase:
    • Assists with prestart-up safety reviews ("PSSR's" or "PSSR")
    • Verifies agreed technology functions as specified
    • Ensures operators and maintenance personnel are trained on processes
  • Transitions environmental working conditions to operations
  • Ensures process safety system related documentation is maintained; archives for future use
  • Anticipates, identifies and evaluates hazardous conditions and practices; corrects or notifies management for correction as appropriate
  • Develops hazard control designs, methods, procedures, and programs
  • Implements, administers and advises others on hazard control programs
  • Measures, audits and evaluates effectiveness of hazard control programs
  • Develops policies to ensure safety of an environment, its customers and employees
  • Inspects equipment, environments and buildings; identifies areas that potentially cause health and safety hazards
  • Investigates accidents and injuries, without prejudice; recommends improvements to safety policies and programs
  • Drafts future safety plans and statements based on real time experiences and facts
  • Stays abreast of new laws and regulations in health and safety; makes appropriate changes for Company
  • Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of HS&E principles and values; champions safety as necessary
  • Performs other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position


Experience Requirement

  • 5-8 years' experience in a plant or regulatory environment
  • Experience working with and proven understanding of various governmental regulations
  • Self-starter; quick learner; decision-maker
  • Proven ability to write and implement safety programs
  • Experience leading operational risk assessments e.g. PHAs, SEL, HAZOPS, etc.
  • Experience working with air emissions, waste water, and other potentially hazardous pollutants
  • Working knowledge of federal operating permits
  • Experience working with Federal, state and local environmental regulations including RCRA
  • Solid history of working with regulatory agencies
  • Experience in plant environments subject to OSHA and EPA regulations, working knowledge of NFPA, ANSI, ASTM standards, ISO 14000 and OHSAS 18000 management systems
  • Ability to multi-task; good organizational skills
  • Formal training as leader of Risk Assessment e.g. Bowtie, PHA, HAZOPS, SEL, Human Factors, MOC, and PSSR
  • Customer service focus; ability to influence and communicate diplomatically; excellent negotiations skills
  • Excellent computer skills including ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, various email and internet applications, databases, government systems, etc.
  • Solid English communications skills, both oral and written; Korean language both oral and written


Education Requirement

  • B.S. in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field required
  • Advanced degree preferred
