ABB is offering a position as a Senior Design Engineer in Zurich, CH. In this role you will perform a variety of complex component engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering design principles, plus a great length of understanding in medium to high voltage insulation applications and Design-for-Excellence techniques (Design-to-Cost, Design-to-Manufacturing, Design-to-Assembly) Design Engineering encompasses the design, research and analysis of parts, components, assemblies, subassemblies, and systems; this role also includes the preparation of associated drawings and instructions.

- Design, analyze, and evaluate products or components
- Develop 3D models of components and assemblies of transformer bushings and align them with customer requirements
- Utilize and expand our current collaboration with universities to ensure continued state of the art engineering
- Support cost-effective in-house production and use state of the art engineering tools CAD, PLM, FEM systems
- Design and develop complex models or simulations and apply advanced computational analyses, programs, or analytical techniques (e.g. FEM)
- Act as principal investigator or lead a group of engineers investigating root causes of problems or field failures (using FMEA methods, etc.), develop solutions and prepare related recommendations and reports

- M.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering and a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience.
- Manufacturing knowledge and experience a real advantage (eg. casting and and assembly)
- Solid knowledge of 3D design tools (preferably ProE/Creo2)
- Versatile skill set in mechanical engineering. and profound knowledge of aluminum cast structures including good knowledge of aluminum cast processes
experience static mechanical analyses, seismic and lifecycle fatigue calculations within FEM Tools
- Fluency in German (min B2/C1) and English is required
- Knowledge of classification society regulations is preferred
- Familiarity with ERP: SAP R/3, 3D Tool: PTC Creo2, data management: Windchill 10.1, FEM: ANSYS 17.1, Mathcad
