Job Overview:

The Community Outreach Assessment Specialist, located in New York, NY will join an existing project team supporting the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to support post Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. The Assessment Specialist will provide support to expand upon the current groundwork in supporting a larger training and workforce development plan.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Facilitate Information Sessions for residents on-site and in Sandy affected communities, providing an overview of no-cost economic opportunity services
  • Provide one-on-one assessments with residents following the sessions to ensure that residents receive appropriate referrals to support meeting their career goals
  • Assist residents will completing customer information forms which will be used to complete their resident profile and facilitate job order sourcing
  • Perform data entry and maintain resident electronic and hard copy records
  • Connect qualified residents, on-site and in the field, to construction training and assist with conducting on-site testing and screening for the construction track of the Resident Training Academy
  • Work to match new Academy graduates from Sandy affected communities with employment opportunities and access alumni from the Academy for upcoming construction positions; track employment retention
  • Facilitate evening sessions at the request of local stakeholders
  • Travel to various Sandy impacted neighborhoods as needed
Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 4 years of experience in workshop facilitation, client assessment, community development and related areas
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and strong typing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Community and Economic development, Public Policy, Education, Business or related field preferred
  • Experience with one or more of the following preferred: community organizing, workforce development, adult education and job training
