The Autowinder Machine Operator will be responsible for the operation, troubleshooting, repair and minor maintenance of automated equipment that models the human action of element rolling. You will be responsible for understanding both the product construction and the machine operation to maximize yields and machine up time. The Autowinder Machine Operator will also work as a tester, setting up, loading, operating and reading test equipment in accordance with the prescribed processes.

Essential Responsibilities

As an Autowinder Operator you will be working on a rotating, 12-hour shift schedule with shift changes at 4am and 4pm.
In addition, you will:
  • Understand Autowinder safety, quality and production goals; actively engage in meeting these goals
  • Set-up and monitor machine operations according to standard operating instructions
  • Inspect raw materials and products to ensure there are no visual defects; take corrective action as needed
  • Handle, measure and mix chemicals in accordance with prescribed methods and operating requirements
  • Ensure accuracy of testing and data entry of results in manual logs or computer system
  • Log and track Autowinder machine deviations and quality traceability data
  • Inspect and package product to manufacturing specifications
  • Resolve performance issues with the Autowinder by quickly taking action and using investigative, troubleshooting and mechanical skills
  • Interrupt machine operation as necessary to correct operating problems; minimize production of elements that do not meet specifications
  • Communicate technical issues in a timely manner to all levels (managers, co-workers, maintenance, engineers, etc.)
  • Assist with failure & preventative maintenance procedures
  • Comply with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) rules, including safe work practices and housekeeping practices
  • Participate in EHS meetings, investigations, and audits; proactively communicate and address safety concerns
  • Perform tasks in accordance with quality and regulatory requirements
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor, facilitator, or lead


  • Associate's Degree in engineering, plastics technology, industrial technology, instrumentation, automated systems and robotics, electronics engineering technology, industrial controls and robotics, right skills now for manufacturing or similar technical associates degree ( OR a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 1 year of experience as a machine operator, maintenance technician, or military service)ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work overtime
  • Ability and willingness to lift, maneuver and carry up to 50 lbs., as required
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, as required
  • Ability and willingness to stand and/or walk for up to 8 or 12 hour days, as required
  • Willingness to wear personal protective equipment, for example safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, and safety shoes
  • Willingness to work in a tobacco-free environment
  • Ability and willingness to work a 12 hour shift
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

    Desired Characteristics

  • Experience working in and navigating computer applications. Ability to perform basic functions in Excel, including navigating to files, data input, copy & paste and sums
  • Strong mathematical aptitude, such as ability to calculate flow rate and take measurements of circumference
  • Experience participating in the development of work instructions and operating guides
  • Basic SAP experience, including navigating in the system, looking up test specs and ensuring bills of materials match recipes
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Quality inspection experience, including experience identifying and resolving product quality issues
  • Detail orientated
  • Strong communication skills and ability to learn and understands all policies, practices, and procedures
  • Lean manufacturing experience
  • Previous experience performing setup, troubleshooting and operation of automated machines
