Full Time
Design & enhancement of wind turbine control systems, coordinating with teams within Renewable engineering and services team on product needs, requirements flow down leading to design, implementation and validation of control systems, communicating site validation activities with the services team and customers. The broad scope of responsibility provides an opportunity to optimize turbine performance and operability.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist development and enhancement of controls technologies, such as Advanced Loads Controls, Model Based Controls, extreme loads control, covering functional requirements definition, flow down, preliminary design development & documentation
  • Interface with simulations team and incorporate wind turbine and wind farm operability requirements into the design, as part of control system design
  • Work with controls product line & systems personnel to flow down desired capability into requirements & preliminary design that can be executed through detailed design and implementation.
  • Work with Fleet Reliability Operations and Renewable Services team to define control system needs for the installed base
  • Engage in the efforts of defining / documenting turbine operability & constraints. This is creating the foundation on which controls architecture and approach can be modified to meet goals of improved transient response

  • Master's Degree in Control Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited College or University
  • Experience in design and / or modeling of controls systems with new controls algorithm development, implementation and validation techniques: Software in the Loop (SIL), Processor in the Loop (PIL), Hardware in the Loop (HIL)
  • Knowledge of controls related sensors and actuators
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English (spoken and written)
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills
  • Willingness to travel occasionally

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with real time controls design or modeling
  • Experience with GE's Mark VIe or similar controllers
  • Proficient in Matlab / Simulink for the design and validation of controls systems
  • Experience in wind industry with a focus on plant controls systems
  • Greenbelt Certification or equivalent Quality training
  • Demonstrated process orientation in approach to work
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills and a positive energy
