We are seeking an experienced Principal Tunnel Engineer to undertake project work involving all elements of underground structure design/construction issues, providing technical input within that field as part of a multi-disciplinary team, or working separately on particular aspects of underground structure design/construction providing high quality advice to the CH2M team & clients. There would also be the need to support bids with technical and other input.

Reporting to Regional Practice Manager and internal client Project Managers, this role will be one of the key senior members of the tunnels team in London.


The principal function will be to provide a tunnels team lead role to other business group projects in a project delivery and business development capacity. The role will strengthen and grow the technical capabilities of the European tunnels team at a senior level, will provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and will develop the tunnelling skills of the geotechnical team in Krakow. This will involve a significant client facing element.


Responsibilities to include:

- Provide tunnelling lead in multi-disciplinary project teams.

- Engineering delivery and management (potentially in D&B environment).

- Lead tunnels contribution to proposals.

- Mentor and develop others technically.

- Participates in internal and external technical and professional activities.

- Uses technological advances to improve quality, results and efficiency.

- Planning and management of project and proposal team resources.

- Project financial forecasting, reporting and control to the PM.

- Technical oversight.

- Proactive approach to career development.


Minimum Qualifications
  We are seeking a Chartered Civil Engineer (ICE or equivalent) with extensive experience at principal engineer/senior engineer level within the tunnelling environment. You will have knowledge and experience of both the tunnels market in UK and overseas. Candidates will have demonstrable expertise in segmental lining design and/or SCL, rock tunnelling experience would also be an advantage.
Candidates should exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills with strong proficiency in spoken and written English. You will have strong ethics that match expectations of CH2M and the ability to undertake temporary assignments (3-4 months) in the Middle East and other global regions.
